Design Engineer II
Job Description:
The Advanced Design Engineer’s primary role uses engineering expertise to identify and validate new technology to be integrated into future new products leveraging project management skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Help identify and develop new technologies and products in Hand Tools applications for various categories like mechanics tools, electrical tools, and striking/struck tools.
  • Will be able to select appropriate materials and design complex structures unassisted from start to finish
  • Will utilize FEA and other analytical techniques to create innovative and optimized designs
  • Will have a good understanding of commonly used manufacturing and tooling processes and how to effectively design parts for them
  • Focus on the product structure and appearance, manufacturing process, prototyping and New Product Development of
  • Able to assess the suitability of a fabrication technology for a given part design
  • Assists supplier selection process for new products and second sourcing activities supporting qualification/disqualification decisions
  • Planning validation exercises to demonstrate initial feasibility as well as manufacturing capability
  • Reviewing progress of development activities at supplier locations
  • Reviewing part design documentation to ensure alignment with process capability
  • Identify shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance
  • Identify potential execution issues and provide recommendations to mitigate risk
  • Analyzing results of test exercises and provide technical recommendations
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics, and 2-5 years prior experience in the design of mechanical systems
  • Masters preferred
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD – Solidworks, NX or equivalent
  • Strong experience with FEA - ANSYS, LS Dyna, or equivalent
  • Deep mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical properties and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials.
  • An understanding of data analytics using MS Excel, MATLAB, or Python
  • Demonstrated knowledge of injection molding, forging, casting and machining & fabrication manufacturing processes and capabilities
  • Hands-on level experience testing and validating prototypes: with examples of balancing digital design validation versus prototyping & testing
