As a part of our Legal team, you’ll help uphold Hoag Health Systems high ethical and corporate standards, culture, and principles of integrity.

In this role, you will support a wide variety of legal matters across the Hoag enterprise. We need an experienced and collaborate healthcare attorney to provide appropriate and responsive legal support and advice on a variety of legal matters including transactions with physicians, regulatory compliance, medical foundation operations, clinical research, payer contracting, and privacy and security. We need a forward-thinking, highly organized, problem solving, and a pro-active attorney who is able to operate autonomously, yet effectively partner with executives across a nationally recognized organization. This position reports directly to our Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer.

Essential functions include:
  • Advising on all aspects of US healthcare laws and regulations, state laws, and trends
  • Providing practical, solutions-oriented legal advice, guidance, and representation to Hoag and its related entities with respect to healthcare transactions, physician compensation arrangements, and hospital and medical foundation operations.
  • Reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, clinical research agreements, agreements with physician-entities, and payer agreements.
  • Developing policies and procedures to operationalize best practices and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Communicating with regulators and advising on licensing issues.
  • Providing business and legal perspective and advice on a wide range of strategic, tactical and operational issues.
  • Relevant areas of law include corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, governance, joint ventures, regulatory matters, fraud and abuse, privacy and security, provider-payor contracts, digital health, clinical research, and employment.
  • Developing facts in support of legal diligence and investigations.
  • Corporate governance support.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.
  • Travel between Hoag locations as needed.

Education and Experience
  • Graduated from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Eight (8) years of post-Juris Doctorate legal experience as a healthcare attorney, which may be any combination of private practice, government agency practice, and/or in-house position.
  • Significant experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, research, and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive management and subject matter experts across departments.
  • Practical, logical, and efficient problem solver.
  • Strong work ethic, team player, and positive attitude.
  • Organized and keen attention to detail.
  • Results oriented, self-motivated, and self-directed.
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Able to handle multiple concurrent assignments, and assume personal responsibility for deliverables under tight deadlines, working well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment.

License Required
  • Member in good standing with the California Bar.
