The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Community Liaison connects, serves, and empowers WWP Alumni and family members by assisting the WWP Alumni team with outreach to wounded service members (active and veteran) and with planning and executing Alumni engagement events/activities in an assigned regional area. They build and nurture relationships with local VA’s, military installations, community leaders, VSOs and other non-profits to create collaborative opportunities, provide diverse resources, and educate the community on the WWP brand, programs and resources.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Interact with diverse individuals and build effective working relationships and networks in pursuit of common goals (e.g., with VSO/MSO community leaders, federal/state agency leaders (local representatives), federal/state lawmakers and their staffs, military leaders, and other community leaders where appropriate).
  • Develop a comprehensive and integrated community outreach plan (including timelines, measures of success that tie to organizational priorities) that includes key individuals, organizations, and consortiums in the assigned area of operation.
  • As a WWP liaison and representative, collaborate and communicate successfully with key external leaders and organizations. Develop and foster enduring relationships with community leaders focused on issues which may impact WWP and WWP warriors.
  • Plan local events and activities for the benefit of Alumni, active-duty service members and their families. Encourage them to participate and connect with other members.
  • Identify community events and activities in the local area that will provide opportunities for warriors and active-duty service members participation and connection.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of all WWP efforts across programmatic and non-programmatic teams including advocacy efforts and how WWP impacts and interacts with the military and veteran communities.
  • Establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with WWP teammates.
  • Utilize expense controls and seek cost-saving opportunities to help manage budget effectively.
  • Make public presentations and conduct outreach about WWP to grow and publicize initiatives to enhance potential corporate and community support.
  • Must incorporate collaborative technology and communication platforms, bridging WWP programs and services with unique and remote constraints associated with Alaska.

  • Demonstrated understanding of WWP programs and services offered to wounded warriors.
  • Good organizational and time management skills. Effectively complete assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel in support of WWP programs and services.

EXPERIENCE
Requirements
  • Five years of experience building relationships with government and military organizations, veterans associations or other targeted constituents.
  • Two years of experience with computer software, e.g., Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Preferences
  • Seven years of experience building relationships with government and military organizations, veterans associations or other targeted constituents.
  • Military background/experience
  • Three years of experience working with military or veteran populations.
  • Two years of experience planning events or community activities.
EDUCATION
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training, or certification may be considered in lieu of degree.
Preferences
  • Master's Degree.
