OVERVIEW: The State of Illinois is comprised of over 50 agencies, boards, and commissions whose purpose is to provide services and improve the lives of all Illinois residents. Available positions are based in both Springfield and Chicago.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Pritzker Administration is seeking senior communications professionals to lead communications at state agencies. Ideal candidates will have experience in media relations, communications strategy, and driving a message around policies, programming and state services. The successful candidate will bring curiosity, critical thinking, empathy and excellent written/oral presentation skills, while demonstrating a proven track record in strategic communications, with at least 3-6 years of experience in communications and media relations.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

· Work closely with agency senior staff and the communications office of the governor to drive a message and highlight the goals and successes of the administration.

· Develop and manage a communications plan and calendar in partnership with policy experts and other team members to highlight programming, services, and announcements.

· Create clear, compelling narratives across multiple channels to inform and update Illinois residents on key programs and changes.

· Develop and execute best practices for consistent, optimized regional/local communications.

· Prepare and train agency leaders for media interviews and speaking engagements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Strong written skills, including drafting press releases, statements, and digital content.

· Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to think and communicate clearly, formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues, and create a concise and well-written narrative.

· Proven ability to work well within a team and elevate potential press opportunities or challenges to leadership.

· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, work well under tight deadlines, and readily adapt to changing priorities.

· Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks/projects at once.

· On the record experience and experience working with news media.
