SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:
Responsible for participating in a lead role to assist in the direction of all finance department responsibilities and is accountable for the timely, accurate and comprehensive completion of general ledger entries, monthly activity and account reconciliations, accrual entries, month end close documentation, and payroll processing.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
All the following duties will be assigned and coordinated by the Assistant CFO across three Senior Accountant Positions.
Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the Assistant CFO in the daily operation of all finance department responsibilities
  • Accountability for the accurate and timely data entry of various financial information including data related to operating bank accounts, various accruals, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll
  • Coordinate with senior finance staff in the monthly reconciliation of multiple general ledger accounts, while interfacing with staff in all functions throughout the agency to investigate and resolve issues around unclear ledger entries
  • Coordinating agency fiscal procedural audits of various cash accounts including on-site review of petty cash,
  • change funds, bus token accounts, tax exempt forms, and any other distributions of cash or cash equivalent

  • Preparing and submitting invoices related to third party contracts with funding sources, sub-contracts and
  • other related parties on a timely basis
  • Coordinating the completion of all documentation, expense reporting and reconciliations of specialty cost
  • centers and expense items (i.e. Medication purchasing, consultants, specialty grants, HUD, DSRIP etc.) including preparation of reports and analysis as needed
  • Providing training and assistance to other accounting staff related to execution of department activities as needed
  • Insuring timely preparation of all materials needed for the annual independent financial audit, the annual
  • pension audit, workers compensation and other audits, as needed
  • Assisting Assistant CFO to insure accuracy of all financial data and consistent execution of all
  • internal controls
  • Assisting Assistant CFO in the monitoring and identification of potential efficiency and quality process improvement initiatives including recommendations for procedural improvements and other department enhancements
  • Acts as a resource to agency personnel and staff on accounting operations
  • Executes targeted random audits and prepares reports for review by the Assistant CFO
  • Monitors and updates the monthly closing checklist as tasks are completed per department deadlines. Reports deficiencies to the Assistant CFO
  • In the absence of the Assistant CFO acts as the lead finance contact
  • Shared responsibility to provide back-up coverage for all critical daily operational tasks
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor within specified time frame.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Advanced accounting skills that include an understanding of journal entries, subsidiary ledgers, account reconciliation, and working knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to view a situation from multiple angles, collaboratively brainstorm on solutions and identify the best course of action to move forward.
  • Strong detail orientation and commitment to producing work that is accurate the first time
  • Strength in initiative-taking with a demonstrated track record in proactively identifying improvement opportunities and acting upon them.

  • Ability to complete extensive computer work requiring accurate and timely execution of numerous detailed transactions on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated successful experience with journal entries and general ledger operations
  • Must be capable of providing backup to other finance department functions as needed
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and experience with ERP accounting systems (experience with Microsoft Navision, Jet Reports, Certify, and ADP a plus).
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize duties effectively and work efficiently within defined timeframes.
  • Must exercise tact and diplomacy to maintain positive working relationships when dealing with internal staff, team members, external staff, consumers, and agency third parties.
  • Must demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to operate office equipment

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting required, Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of experience is required related to above education. Additional direct experience may be submitted for educational requirements.

Must have access to an automobile with NYS required license/insurance and the ability to represent the agency at related meetings, workshops or other events.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $57,000.00 - $69,000.00 per year
