The Heart and Vascular Center and Department of Surgery of The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, are seeking a Section Chief of Cardiac Surgery to lead an established team of four MDs and eight APPs. This individual will lead the clinical, academic, and programmatic missions of the Section. In collaboration with the Director of the Heart and Vascular Center, the Section Chief will oversee and develop operational strategies for the clinical programs of the section while developing policies and goals for quality improvement. We anticipate a growing focus on population health collaboration with the academic medical center and its network of regional healthcare facilities. Critical features of the position include oversight and expansion of the Section’s research and training programs along with the development and mentoring of its faculty.
Working in close collaboration with colleagues from Cardiovascular Medicine and Vascular Surgery members of the section of Cardiac Surgery are engaged in the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgical care, including open surgical and endovascular therapy for cardiac and aortic pathologies. We provide these services at our main campus in Lebanon, NH. We serve patients from New Hampshire and Eastern Vermont encompassing a total population of 1.6 million
DHMC is committed to discovery, translation, and implementation of new knowledge to improve the health of our community. The Heart & Vascular Center has a robust research portfolio focused on clinical and population health supported by funding from the NIH/NHLBI (active member of the CTSN), the American Heart Association, and other foundations, and is engaged in numerous clinical trials. The research program is supported by expert mentors, training programs, and dedicated administrative, technical and analytic resources. We train two APPs annually in our accredited (ARC-PA) Cardiothoracic Surgical Advanced Practice Provider residency program, vascular surgery, and general surgery residents. We have robust collaborative ties with the Geisel School of Medicine and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI).
Successful candidates will demonstrate leadership, organizational, and mentoring skills with a background in scientific research and/or medical education. This individual must be certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and qualify for appointment at the level of Associate Professor of Surgery or higher at the Geisel School of Medicine. A strong record of scholarly achievement and extramural funding is preferred.
