SUMMARY:
The school Audiologist supports students with hearing difficulties in the educational setting. The Audiologist is guided by best practices and codes of ethics that are outlined by their professional organizations.


This position reports to the Director of Special Education.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary professional team for the purpose of meeting the hearing needs of students ages 3-21.
  • Provide diagnostic services to evaluate hearing and auditory processing including candidacy for assistive listening devices to support students in their education environments.
  • Participate in the Individualized Education Plan to develop educational recommendations for students with hearing impairment.
  • Provide counseling to parents and students regarding audiological findings, hearing loss impact and amplification benefit.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and parents in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs.
  • Oversee and implement district wide hearing screenings.
  • Collaborate and consult with community audiologists and physicians regarding the audiological and educational management of students with hearing loss.
  • Provide consultation in regard to the selection, purchase, installation, maintenance, calibration, checking and utilization of audiologic equipment.
  • Provide training about hearing, hearing loss and other auditory disorders for school personnel, students and parents to facilitate a better understanding of the impact of auditory impairments on language, learning, literacy and social development.
  • Provide hearing conservation information to parents, students and school personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master or Doctoral degree in Audiology from an accredited university.
  • Valid license to practice Audiology.
  • Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Spanish Speaker: speaks, reads, writes and understands spoken Spanish
  • Previous school district audiology experience
