Job Summary

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Patient Services Associate provides customer service and facilitates business processes that contribute to efficient and quality patient care. This role carries out daily front desk responsibilities and is lead for all patient scheduling needs. The Scheduler interacts with patients, families, clinicians and other administrative staff members for scheduling of inpatient rehabilitation appointments required for inpatient rehab level of care.
Responsibilities*

Customer Service Greet patients/families arriving to therapy areas, verify appointment status and facilitate patient transport back to bedside post-appointment. Screen, route and respond to phone inquiries from current and prospective patients/families, outside referring hospitals, nursing, care management and unit staff.
Patient Scheduling Accurately and efficiently schedule daily patient therapy appointments in the electronic medical record Carry out communication protocols related to scheduling of patient appointment, delays, and cancellations. Identify and resolve daily operating issues related to patient scheduling and transportation to provide the ideal patient experience and aid compliance with therapy minutes requirement for the inpatient rehab level of care.

Administrative Tasks Complete clerical tasks including data tracking and entry, running reports, document collating and scanning, requesting records, reconciling patient lists Handles all procurement processing for office supplies and purchase orders Complete portions of the patient registration process including updating/verifying patient demographics within the EMR Participate in departmental efforts that contribute to safe and efficient patient scheduling in collaboration with administration, therapies, nursing and physicians Provide back-up coverage for coordination of post-discharge appointments and team meeting schedule creation Additional projects and duties assigned by manager
Required Qualifications*
High School Diploma or GED. 2-3 years of experience in healthcare administration setting. Previous customer service experience Knowledge of basic medical terminology Excellent keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with a team Welcoming and approachable demeanor with a consistently positive and professional attitude Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Ability to multi-task and attention to detail
Desired Qualifications*
Associate?s degree in a health science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience Prior experience performing complex scheduling. Familiarity with MM electronic medical record systems.
Work Schedule

This is a 24 hour/week position with a typical work schedule of M, W, F 7:30am-4pm.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
