Position Title: Sales Associate
Location: Center, ND

Position Summary: The Sales Associate provides excellent customer service while accurately transacting sales of fuel and merchandise. The Sales Associate maintains levels of products within the store to be available for sale to our customers. The Sales Associate is responsible for the proper and efficient operation of the shift, within company policy, in such a way as to ensure that the shift contributes to the increased profitability of the store.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides top quality customer service at all times.
  • Performs daily store cleaning and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Complies with company standards on carding customers for all age restricted products.
  • Prepares food & drinks, cleans, stocks, and maintains food prep area in compliance with health codes. (Based on location)
  • Secures all funds in safe or register. Makes timely drops and maintains cash drawer at or below maximum level. Notifies the Store Manager of any sales, cash, or operating discrepancies. Utilize the cash register to record all sales and provide customer with receipts.
  • Conducts Loss Prevention Observations (Drive Offs, theft), Loss Investigations and Near Loss Investigations.
  • Assists Store Manager in maintaining a store inspection grade of at least 80% on the store inspection report.
  • Utilizes plus-selling techniques as directed by the Store Manager
  • Adheres to daily operating procedures to ensure store is clean, adequately stocked and organized. Maintains inventory in coolers, drink boxes, store shelves and display units are kept “fronted” at all times.
  • Properly cleans and maintains equipment and ready high-margin products such as coffee, fountain drinks etc. Checks refrigeration equipment for proper performance a minimum of one time per shift.
  • Maintains a clean floor and restroom area at all times. Cleans windows, floors, shelving, counters, car wash (if applicable), and parking lot and gas pumps, sustaining the level of cleanliness as outlined. Removes snow from sidewalk.
  • Assures proper sale and accounting for lottery, beer/liquor, UPS, and license when applicable.
  • Prepares shift-change report at the completion of shifts by closing and balancing out the cash register in accordance with Parkland USA’s policies and procedures.
  • Follows all Parkland USA, vendor and merchandising policies and established procedures
  • Accurately posts markups/downs, store use of merchandise, voids and bad merchandise write off within the established guidelines.
  • Attends monthly safety and security meetings and sign the attendance sheet. Report all safety and security issues. Reports and process all employee and/or customer incidents or unsafe acts in accordance with Parkland USA’s policy and procedure
  • Employee is expected to set priorities and meet deadlines. Employee is responsible for planning and carrying out assignments, resolving conflicts that arise, informing and coordinating with others as expected. Employee is accountable for ensuring the technical accuracy of their work and maintaining good working relations, both internal and external to Parkland USA. Self-direction and motivation are also expected.
  • Employee must demonstrate safe work and risk management practices.
  • Must meet performance expectations and complete all duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Working towards High School Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience Positive outgoing personality.
  • Previous retail sales background.
  • Operate an electronic cash register and computer.
  • Perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  • (6) months previous cash handling and customer service experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient verbal & written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in varying outdoor climates and in-store cooler environments.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
