Position Description

The Director of Risk reports into our President of Operations Support & Integration and will be a business partner who adds value by seeking ways to be more proactive in risk management and reduce claims in all areas of the business. This role will set the strategic vision for risk management within Flynn, collaborate with stakeholders to execute against the vision and ensure that we achieve the mutually agreed upon goals. This leader will exhibit strong business process knowledge, possess a broad-based operational perspective, and proactively provide solutions for any and all related risk issues.

Position Requirements

This role is responsible for Four (4) key areas of risk management, including:

GENERAL LIABILITY & WORKERS COMP CLAIM PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Leads the team that develops and maintains policies and procedures applicable to GL/WC claim handling in accordance with Casualty Best Practice across 44 States.
  • Oversees the relationship and leads the direction of the Third-Party Claims Administrator in the handling of outsourced GL/WC claims ensuring adherence to service level agreements.
  • Leads the internal teams on GL/WC matters to help identify adverse trends, mitigate exposures, and educate management.

SAFETY PERFORMANCE AND IMPROVEMENTS

  • Leads the Safety team to help identify claim root causes and loss trends to reduce both frequency and severity as well as minimize OSHA exposure.
  • Supports corporate safety mission through daily management of safety processes and directs the Safety team on the development or enhancement of safety audit programs.
  • Leads the safety team in conducting audits in store and operations buildings and monitors findings for improvements or further action as required.

INSURANCE PROCUREMENT

  • Secures companywide insurance, (e.g., Casualty, Property, Cyber, Fiduciary, etc.) through cultivating broker and carrier relationships to ensure the best-in-class coverage and rates for the company.
  • Leads the annual renewal for all Risk and Liability insurance coverages in partnership with leadership and outside brokers. Work with finance department in establishing and monitoring actuarial reserves.

MANAGEMENT OF TEAM LEADERS

Form and lead internal teams, providing training and mentorship as needed. Directly and indirectly manage staff with the goal of enhancing professional development and personal growth.

Desired Skills and Experience The Director of Risk must be an effective and results driven leader, who is a dynamic, proactive, and decisive person. Adapts well to and initiates change in the organization. Key traits for the individual in this position are highly developed communications, strong leader and team player, excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability, positive change agent, strategic and creative, excellent project management skills, and the ability to drive performance from all areas within the company.

  • At least 7-10 years of experience of leadership in risk management.
  • Bachelors or another relevant Degree required.
  • Previous experience in large, self-insured programs, including self-administered litigated claims experience strongly preferred.
  • Executive presence with demonstrated ability to lead change and drive execution; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills needed to effectively share and engage internal stakeholders and clinical areas with the most relevant data.
  • Experience in a retail, restaurant, or CPG business with disbursed locations; experience in and passion for fast-paced, dynamic, and growing companies
  • Strong understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, Property, and other risk programs.
  • Financial acumen for insurance procurement, budgeting, and all aspects of risk management including actuarial analysis, allocation of risk programs, claim trend analysis and management reporting.
  • Goal-driven leader who maintains a productive climate and confidently motivates, mobilizes, and coaches employees to meet high performance standards.
  • Results-driven achiever with exemplary planning and organizational skills, along with a high degree of detail orientation.
