We're looking for:

The Retail Manager will oversee the retail program including Minibar and Merchandise for properties owned or managed by Bunkhouse. The person in this role also may collaborate with outside retail consultants as needed for future projects.

The person in this position must have great communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict, and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies. The Retail Manager must develop and maintain the company’s culture, values, and reputation in the public eye, and with all staff, guests, vendors, and partners. Furthermore, the Retail Manager must promote the Bunkhouse Vision and Core Values in all actions and decisions. (Note: this is an in-person position in order to support physical retail locations)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Five (5) years related experience in retail or product development industry
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of co-workers
  • Ability to create documents and presentations in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to understand other computer programs (i.e., Point of Sale Systems, merchandise sales systems)
  • Ability to apply concepts of math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and algebra, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Job Requirements:

  • Source vendors, develop new products, refresh current product, act as a liaison between the hotels and retail vendors, ensuring offerings are cohesive, represent the property brand and vision of the company
  • Assist F&B Director with curation and implementation of minibar + bodega selections, pricing, placement and operations where applicable
  • Style merchandise and retail displays, including new store design and build outs, fixtures and signage
  • Perform recruiting functions for on property Retail Attendants, including reviewing candidates, interviewing, and training employees
  • Indirectly manage on property Retail Attendants in collaboration with General Managers, including traingin and providing regular feedback to the teams
  • Manage E-Commerce and oversee quality control of online stores (i.e. ensure quality product photography, develop Bunkhouse appropriate product copy, maximize potential of online retail sites)
  • Develop all retail specific sales and marketing strategies, including social strategy, eblast content, press pitches, influencer marketing and gifting in collaboration with Marketing and Communication team
  • Develop, train, and roll out drop ship and co-branding opportunities
  • Oversee standardized Bunkhouse in-store packaging program, sourcing and developing
  • Development of gifts for guests and Experiential Retail (i.e., In Room Styling Service, Add on Flowers, Etc.)
  • Track sales of both in-store and online existing product with Monthly Top Line, Mid-year Retail, Year End Reports as well as Project and Event Recaps
  • Implement inventory standards and procedures to consistently maintain an accurate inventory in collaboration with Corporate Controller / Accounting team
  • Manage retail calendar with upcoming yearly plans and product development & promotion
  • Lead monthly retail meetings with General Manager and on property retail representatives
  • Assist with vendor relationships (i.e. Pop-ups, Trunk Shows, SXSJ, Trans-Pecos, etc.)
  • Support properties in design, build and merchandising Merch Booths at events
  • Curation of VIP gifts, including Room Drops, Top Guests Holiday Gifts and special event VIP gifts
  • Develop departmental objectives, budgets, policies, procedures, cost improvement objectives, action plans, and strategies
  • Manage annual Employee Sales
  • Attend local and national trade shows and markets to scout new items
  • Ensure property retail staff have a complete understanding of product qualities and sufficient training before holding them accountable for results
  • Ensure open lines of communication with staff, all departments and upper management via email, Basecamp, meetings, etc.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
  • Attend relevant meetings
  • Must be available to work in-person and travel between various Bunkhouse locations when requested (approx. 25% travel)

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of a hotel/restaurant/office setting
  • The person in this position may have to lift/carry up to fifty (50) pounds on a daily basis; anything over fifty (50) pounds is considered a minimum two (2) person lift
  • The person having this position may have to remain stationary for one (1) hour, move about/traverse property spaces, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for up to eight (8) hours per day
