Summary

The Resident Recreation Staff is responsible for helping to develop and implement programs of recreation that serve a broad range of individual activity and social needs. These include, but are not limited to, community adjustment and integration, enriched quality of life, maximum independence, and validation of self-worth.

A criminal background check is required.

Essential Duties
  • Implement a daily program of small group and one-on-one activities.
  • Facilitate independent recreation and socialization among residents.
  • Plan and prepare a monthly program of recreation and activity.
  • Write individual care plans for recreation, based on evaluations of each resident’s needs.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team planning.
  • Document resident’s progress toward care plan goals.
  • Cooperate with Activities Staff from all units in implementing whole-house events and trips out of Pocopson Home.
  • Help cover activities on evenings, weekends and holidays, as scheduled.
  • Maintain a homelike environment on the unit (i.e. decorations, orientation, gardens, supply inventories, etc.).
  • Transport residents to various recreation locations within the facility.
  • Participate in activities and department meetings.
  • Participate in in-service education.
  • Order and shop for recreational supplies.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Certification in CPR.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in a long term care setting.
  • Knowledge of issues specific to long-term care.
  • Working knowledge of state regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Very strong writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.
  • Ability to work with difficult behaviors.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • Human Services or a related field experience.
  • Flexibility.
  • Competence in one or more recreational fields (i.e., arts and crafts, music, gardening, etc.).
  • Ability to observe and evaluate individual and group behavior.
  • Experience planning and leading recreational groups.
  • Advanced skills using a computer.
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
  • Ability to establish priorities (remain focused on daily operations).
  • Able to carry tasks to completion.
  • Working knowledge of information contained within the Chester County Policy and Procedures Manual and employee handbook (i.e., residents’ rights, safety regulations, professional conduct, etc.).

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:
  • Basic to Advanced Microsoft Word skills
  • Basic to Advanced Microsoft OutLook skills (Email and Calendar)
  • Basic to Advanced Internet skills (for research purposes)
  • Ability to learn new software programs
