Description:
We are seeking one full-time research specialist (laboratory technician) to join the laboratory of Dr. Tyler Beyett in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine. The Beyett lab (https://med.emory.edu/departments/pharmacology-chemical-biology/labs/beyett-lab/index.html) focuses on the discovery and development of new cancer therapeutics.

The individual will help manage the laboratory (purchasing, making stocks and solutions, ensuring health and safety), train new lab members in general laboratory practices, and assist with bench research. The candidate will be responsible for performing molecular biology, protein biochemistry, biochemical/biophysical assays, and cell culture. Results from this work will provide an opportunity for co-authorship on publications. Individuals seeking laboratory experience prior to applying to graduate or medical school are especially encouraged to apply.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules. Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
  • May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
  • Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
  • Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Maintenance of laboratory supplies/reagents, purchasing supplies, making stocks and solutions, interfacing with health & safety and other Emory offices, and basic lab and safety training of new members.
  • There will be opportunities for professional development and research, but the employee will prioritize laboratory management and support duties.
  • Assist with wet lab research. Research involvement may result in co-authorship on publication and the ability to present results at symposia/conferences.
  • The employee is expected to attend and participate in weekly laboratory meetings and other department/campus events.
  • We offer flexible work hours, but it is best if the employee overlaps with other laboratory personnel as much as possible.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least one-year of prior lab experience
  • A commitment of at least two years of work as a research specialist
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
