The Research Scientist will successfully plan and conduct multiple simultaneous wood product efficacy tests in lab or at field sites against biological and non-biological wood deteriorations and provide detailed clear records of work completed. In this position the Research Scientist wil independently perform pilot plant and lab bench wood treatments, and chemical solution preparation and chemical analysis for new chemical formulations and/or process technologies. You will assist in the completion of research projects through technical and written reports providing clear and concise recommendations or technical suggestions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record and maintain technical data, utilizing SQL database and PowerBI for data storage and analysis respectively, and assist with preparation of product efficacy data packages.
- Work and maintain field research sites and assist with the management of field research sites and third-party testing.
- Practice and promote safe work procedures, be actively involved with safety programs, assess hazards of new work procedures and practices, and provide guidance on safe work procedures.
- Industrial R&D formulation experience in solvent borne and/or water borne formulations will be preferred.
- Wood product efficacy testing experience in the laboratory or in the field will be preferred.
- Antimicrobial/antifungal testing experience will be preferred.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Preferred area of study: Chemistry, Wood Science, or related field (Biology, Forestry, Biochemistry, etc)
- Preferred 3-5 year experience in wood product research, chemistry, field research, or antimicrobial testing.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be hands-on in conducting laboratory and pilot formulations and testing.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying situations to attain goals and meet deadlines.
- Safety, health, and environmental awareness.
- Team player and ability to set priorities, analyze problems, work independently, and manage time effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Power Query, Power BI, DAX, or other large data manipulation and visualization software will be preferred.
- Experience with data management and SQL database interfaces will be preferred.
- Experience in writing detailed technical reports and providing sound recommendations.
- Experience with basic statistical analysis and generating graphical figures will be preferred.
- Capable of safely operating and performing basic maintenance of laboratory, pilot plant, and woodworking equipment.
- Exceptional recording, analysis and management of technical data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Good organizational and planning skills.
