Position Summary:
The Rooted Project is an initiative focused on researching and updating the university history. Advised by Dr. Judith Giesberg in the Department of History, the Research Associate will (1) conduct archival research on the history of Villanova, (2) update the project website with archival findings, (3) work with student groups, interested faculty, and alumni groups to share the findings, and (4) plan and administer Rooted Project social media. This is a part-time, 12-month position, beginning on September 1, 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Research in archives, on-line and physical archives in the region, work on website, meet with and address students/alumni, and promote project via social media.

Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education:
  • BA in History or closely related field.
Work Experience (2+ years):
  • On-site archival research
  • Research in digitized newspapers and other primary source collections
Work Skills
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
Specific Job Knowledge
  • US History, African American History

Preferred Qualifications:
Formal Education
  • MA in History or related field
Work Experience
  • Omeka
Work Skills
  • Social media, working with students and alumni, event planning
Specific Job Knowledge
  • History of Civil Rights, Higher Education
