We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Remote Operations Drilling Technologist in our US Onshore Resources & Carbon Management organization based in Houston, Texas.


The Remote Operations Drilling Technologist is responsible for the support remote supervision of multiple onshore drilling rig operations, including technical, operational, and administrative tasks. Primary responsibilities include completion of operational daily reports, processing of services tickets and invoices, QA/QC OpenWells data, and assisting with logistical arrangements.


Key responsibilities of the Remote Operation Drilling Technologist include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Review field tickets and invoices from 40+ vendors. Verify scope of work, enter cost data into OpenWells. Sign, stamp, and approve tickets for standard equipment rentals and tickets under 10K. Forward others to Drill Site Manager for approval.
  • Correct OpenWells errors identified by validations system on a daily basis.
  • Each day, enter all required data for daily drilling report, import pipe tallies, casing report, cementing report, NPT reports, and other reports in OpenWells.
  • Use TOTCO and teams to create time summary during routine operations
  • Enter surveys into OpenWells
  • QA/QC NPT on a daily basis to ensure NPT has proper responsible party and cause for all failures
  • Enter approved bottom hole assembly information into OpenWells, including summary and components.
  • Enter Rig Association data in OpenWells based on time summary.
  • Verify KPI well type and budget sub well types are correct.
  • Enter end-of-well properties in drilling event.
  • Run Drilling metrics reports weekly to verify all OpenWells data is complete, and metrics are correct.
  • Monitor and control automated systems used by Drilling, including systems such as email processing, daily surveillance report email, data transfers to external systems, OpenWells automation, field network monitoring, NOV Well Data, computer vision, data analytics, and others.
  • Review vendor reports from drilling operations (mud, surveys, BHAs, solids control, mud log, and others). Verify reports are submitted as required and are correct. Ensure all reports are filed.
  • Receive vendor data from downhole tools such as rotary-steerables and MWDs and from downhole sensors. Ensure all data is received and filed correctly.
  • Manage email filing system until automatic email system goes live (PDS).
  • Enter end-of-well properties in drilling event.
  • Run Drilling metrics reports weekly to verify all OpenWells data is complete, and metrics are correct.
  • Monitor and control automated systems used by Drilling, including systems such as email processing, daily surveillance report email, data transfers to external systems, OpenWells automation, field network monitoring, NOV Well Data, computer vision, data analytics, and others.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or computer science, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Good working relationship with engineering and operational teams.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure
