Regional AL Director of Nursing, RN

POSITION PURPOSE: The Regional RN Director of Nursing is responsible for clinical and operational functions of the assigned assisted living facilities, including help managing and determining appropriate human and financial resources to further the organization's goals.

SCOPE: This position is a managerial position for the corporation. The functional responsibility area includes coordinating and supervising the activities of nursing and nursing administrative personnel to best serve our clients, this could represent multiple employees. This position also has fiscal responsibility to safely manage the facility within the established operating budget to achieve the organization’s operating and financial objectives. May serve at one location or more.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Quality Operations

1) Ensure quality of care and regulatory compliance by providing over-site and direction to nursing leadership.

2) Responsible for implementing the nursing process, including assessment, case management, diagnosis, planning, goal setting, implementation and evaluation, in the delivery of professional and paraprofessional services according to MDH licensing.

3) Meet with the client and family to accurately complete all admission paperwork, explaining the home care plan and client/family responsibilities. Participate in care conferences as necessary.

4) Monitor client's funding sources to assure that prior authorization is obtained and transferred accurately and timely to the Prior Authorization Department and that the appropriate payors are billed. Assist with collections as necessary.

5) Supervise and coordinate maintenance of appropriate, accurate and complete documentation of information on clients and staff under your supervision according to agency policy.

6) Delegate appropriate nursing functions according to State Licensure and agency policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with current county, state and federal regulations affecting home health care.

7) Actively participate in agency-wide activities and its continuous quality improvement program. Responsible for evaluating the home care program's level of excellence and implementing process improvement strategies as indicated.

8) Develop and implement safety programs to ensure the well being of residents, staff and visitor as well as avoiding injuries and financial loss. Actively coordinate the workers’ compensation process; prompt investigation of the circumstances; and regular follow-up communication with the injured employee.

9) Perform other functions as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director or Regional Manager of Operations. Sales and Marketing

10) Market the wide range of health care services to potential clients and their families. Assist with/support marketing strategies to achieve financial stability through maximum census. Network with other community providers.

11) Develop and maintain relationships with third parties such as county social workers, hospital discharge planners and others to assist in quality care and referral issues. Network with other community providers. Fiscal Responsibility 12) Participate in the annual clinical budgeting process and work with the Executive Director in developing new and creative ways to grow revenue and maximize operational profits to achieve the organization’s operating and financial objectives. Monitor budget expenditures with nursing personnel throughout the year.

13) Ensure all operations provide services in such a manner to meet or exceed client expectations.

14) Respond to questions and calls from clients, clients' families, doctors, outside case managers, employees, etc., regarding problems, concerns, or general information in a timely manner. Employee Satisfaction and Development

15) Interview, hire, complete competency assessments, mentor, and coordinate staffing and administrative personnel. Provide on-going guidance and feedback. Regularly evaluate, address and correct issues.

16) Provide direct and indirect supervision and management of professional and paraprofessional staff; including mentorship programs, mutually set goals and evaluate employees’ performance, thereby contributing to organizational and individual growth and development.

17) Develop effective work groups among the staff through use of team building strategies and provide for educational training and programs on pertinent topics. Coordinate and participate in departmental and facility wide staff meetings. 18) Disseminate information appropriately to all staff to ensure communication is at its highest level between management, professional and paraprofessional staff at all locations. RELATIONSHIPS: Supervision Exercised: Supervise directly or indirectly all daily activities of professional and paraprofessional staff Internal Contacts: Frequent direct, telephone and electronic contact with all office and health care personnel External Contacts: Frequent direct, telephone and electronic contact with clients, employees, vendors, suppliers, professional resources, referral sources, regulatory bodies and the general community. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: FLSA Definition: Exempt Working Conditions: Normal office conditions. Regional travel. Some exposure to infectious waste, toxic chemicals, needles/body fluids, mechanical hazards and driving. Occasional exposure to outside temperatures in Minnesota climate. Hours of Work: Normally, a minimum of 50 hours per week with extra time as needed to support the mission, activities and expansion of the organization. Other: The individual must be in good physical condition, have a current chest x-ray or negative TB skin test and negative drug screen in accordance with Spectrum’s policy, and be free of all communicable diseases. EDUCATION SPECIFICATIONS: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota. Public Health Nurse Certificate and bachelor’s degree in Nursing, preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years' experience in nursing, preferably in an Assisted Living and/or home health care. Prior supervisory/management experience. SPECIFIC

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Working knowledge of adult clinical practice as well as management theory and principles. • Current knowledge of applicable federal, state and local health care regulations plus familiarity with human resource related areas of workers compensation, unemployment, FMLA and progressive discipline. • Excellent conceptual thinking skills with the ability to identify and analyze complex and sensitive issues, problems and conflicts and to use independent judgment to make decisions, and to recommend and/or implement solutions. Ability to know when and how to ask appropriate questions. • Demonstrated skill and proficiency with Windows-based computer systems and other health care industry related software and office equipment. • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, delegate and accurately follow through on work activities with time constraints and interruptions to meet deadlines as well as to work independently with a minimum amount of direction and/or supervision. • Ability to listen and communicate clearly, fluently and diplomatically orally and in writing in the English language; also to maintain excellent interpersonal and cooperative working relationships with management, staff and clients. • Ability to remain flexible, resilient, calm, maintain a sense of humor and to regularly present a well-groomed, professional image. • Ability to exhibit desirable and appropriate managerial behavior including integrity, ability to get along with others, team playing, industriousness, leadership, supportive communication, sense of urgency and confidentiality and independent judgment to provide for a cohesive working environment dedicated to achieving the organization's goals. • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with staff, managers, executives and others with a variety of working styles to achieve accountability and results using authority and influence sensitively to garner cooperation. Pay: $85.00 - $100,000.00 per year
