General Summary


Assist in coordinating the operation of youth and adult athletics. Duties include assisting with coordination of athletic programs by organizing teams, game schedules, and practices; responding to calls and inquiries; performing record keeping; and completing required forms. This position will take on responsibilities of coordinating and instructing our Pee Wee and Tiny Tyke programs, supervising game fields on weekends for youth and adult leagues, and officiating as needed.

The hours of this position will fluctuate and will work on average of 20-24 hours per week. This is a Regular Part-Time position provided with 457 retirement contributions and Personal Time Off (PTO) leave.

Essential Functions

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:


  • Assist in managing the daily operation of athletics. Primary focus will be on youth athletics to include Tiny Tyke and Pee Wee Soccer, Basketball, TBall, Summer Soccer Camp, Fall Futsal Clinic, other youth programs, and helping in areas of adult athletics as assigned
  • Prepare rosters and game schedules
  • Serve as primary communication contact for volunteer coaches on game days
  • Complete required records and reports
  • Assists with organizing staff by monitoring, training, and scheduling
  • Supervise adult game nights
  • Supervise game day operations for youth sports leagues on weekends as needed and officiate games as needed
  • Assist the Athletics Coordinator by communicating program information and responding to phone calls, e-mails and written correspondence
  • Attend and participate in assigned team and staff meetings
  • Assist with making reservations for buildings, equipment, and programs per City and department guidelines.
  • Ensure areas and equipment used by programs are safe, clean, and properly maintained.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of recreation program policies and procedures.
SKILL: Critical thinking and problem solving skills; supervisory skills and training skills.
ABILITY: Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job; manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; manage multiple priorities; diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations; promote and follow City and Department policies and procedures; communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds; recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate staff. Candidate must have ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
TRAINING: High School Diploma Required. Associates Degree in Recreation or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years of experience in a similar environment.
