The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 182 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.

The Recreation Programmer provides recreational programming or facility coordination services for recreation programs. Responsibilities include: planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, and implementing recreational activities, events, and classes based on the recreational needs of the community. As well as preparing and promoting recreational activities for the assigned site. In addition to recreation programs, the Recreation Programmer will hold supervisor duties of part-time recreation employees such as Recreation Leaders, Recreation Instructors, and Parks and Recreation Aides and volunteers. Other duties may include and are not limited to tracking the location and possession of keys and equipment, maintaining financial and activity records such as accepting cash and credit card payments for a variety of services/programs, and entering contract information.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge in the following fields: Youth Sports, Fitness Centers, and Youth Camp programs.
  • Possess strong organization skills.

SALARY


$18.28 (minimum) - $26.53 (maximum) hourly / $38,022.40 - $55,182.40 annually. Candidates may be hired up to $55,182.40 depending upon qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree in recreation, leisure studies, or area of recreational specialization;
  • AND one year of recreation experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Experience in:
    • Planning special events.
    • Creating teen programming.
    • Supervising staff and volunteers.
    • Financial management and cash handling.
    • Automated registration and or reservations systems.
    • Engaging students of all ages in structured instruction and activities.
    • Community groups, developing partnerships, and marketing programs.
    • Planning, managing, and evaluating recreation programs and sports leagues.
  • Proficiency speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish is desired
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience working with/in:
    • eSports.
    • a community center.
    • with the public and providing customer service.
    • an afterschool program and or a childcare setting.
