Job Details:

The Receptionist provides support with the daily activities of a medical office or department including filing, telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, registration, and patient referrals.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greets visitors and provides reception support to address their needs and provides a positive experience.
  • Coordinates work flow at the reception area while accommodating visitors and staff.
  • Answers telephone and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel, or initiates an action slip for response by appropriate office staff.
  • Schedules appointments and enters appointment date and time into computerized scheduler accurately.
  • Greets and directs patients, salespeople, and visitors, and provides exemplary customer service.
  • Registers patients by verifying that patient’s record is up to date and accurate, and makes appropriate changes in computer system and on patient’s chart.
  • Enters confidential personal health information and financial information into computerized system, and complies with federal and local laws in ensuring patient privacy.
  • Collects payment from patients, applies payments and adjustments to patient accounts in the computer system, and reconciles daily cash reports.
  • Reviews medical records for completeness, assembles records into standard order, and files records in designated areas according to filing systems.
  • Organizes and maintains a filing system for patient charts, including generating chart numbers, filing, and pulling charts.
  • Performs miscellaneous clerical work and provides assistance to the office supervisor or other staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Previous customer service experience required.

EDUCATION:

A high school diploma or equivalency required.

Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
