Brief Description
Provides aftercare services to youth while helping to facilitate their successful reintegration into society. Supports youth to earn secondary and higher education while pursuing vocational technical training programs, within the context of their individual re-entry plan. Works within the juvenile facility and promotes pro-social values, personal accountability and goal setting by utilizing peer group behavior management techniques.
Detailed Description
Works closely with juvenile, their families, the treatment team, and community partners to ensure the goals of the transition plans are met and that the identified primary and secondary needs are addressed as juveniles are prepared for re-entry into the community. Monitors resident’s progress while working closely with the program’s treatment team. Assists students to earn high school diploma/GED while pursuing vocational technical training programs, within the context of their individual re-entry plan. Maintains documentation accordingly. Serves as a liaison to the Juvenile Probation Officer and the juvenile’s family to ensure the home where the juvenile resides has adequate basic needs (i.e., access to food, medication, supervision, etc.) to support a successful transition. Conducts visits in the client’s home, school, or place of employment to ensure safety and program compliance. Attends court hearings, scheduled meetings, etc. as assigned. Attends the initial residential staffing and participates in the development of the re-entry plan. Develops the transition plan and facilitates the transitional staffings to ensure services are in place. Establishes the necessary arrangements and linkages with community partners, businesses, organizations, and agencies in the community to provide services that can address known risk and protective factors to assist the youth with a seamless transition from the facility to residing and working in the community. Responds to critical incidents by performing crisis intervention, analyzing and documenting critical incidents Collaborates with education institutions, job development agencies and vocational training programs to prepare re-entry plans and other initiatives to positively enhance a client's re-entry experience. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social or Behavioral Sciences, Criminal Justice, Corrections, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources or a directly related field. Prefer experience in social services, case work, workforce development or a directly related field, including experience coordinating a program in a social work or corrections agency. Knowledge of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. May be a Certified Probation Officer. Extensive knowledge of probation, parole, and the criminal justice system process. Effective transition and re-entry practices. Knowledge of community, educational and vocational resources. Interpersonal skills and effectively communicate and have good conflict resolution skills. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with good driving record. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment. Position requires working with juveniles who may have committed dangerous/aggressive acts; should possess a high tolerance for working in an emotionally demanding/stressful work environment. Physical/Environmental Requirements: • Standard office environment within a secured facility. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted. Ability to travel to various work site locations. • An employee may be transferred to another department, shift, location, or facility based on the needs of the Department. • Working in a 24-hour facility may make the employee subject to working mandatory overtime or remaining on duty and working all, or a part of, an additional shift (“double shift”). • The incumbent is / may be considered to be ‘essential personnel’ subject to being held over or called back to a work location or alternate site at all times. When required, you will be notified by your supervisor. Must be at least 21 years of age (for applicable positions) and must pass all portions (physical/written) of the Juvenile Academy to continue employment or all standards related to PREA and Ethics for specific positions.
