Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Quality Engineer at our Coshocton, Ohio facility. The Quality Engineer will play a substantial role in the product metallurgy group with responsibilities of exploring the capability of accepting orders, building product numbers, routing orders, and interacting with the testing lab to validate that all steps will meet or exceed customer specifications. The ideal candidate will have prior steel industry experience or be open to working in the steel industry and have an engineering degree, be self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the order design/testing & order entry systems by approving incoming new orders, setting product capabilities, changing/improving existing order process designs, and creating/following product trials
  • Build routes using rule logic to automatically route material for customer specifications in SQL format
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for manufacturing of products in our annealing, pickling, and cold reduction departments
  • Participate in the management of material flow through the disposition of distressed material in accordance with customer and internal standards and business imperatives
  • Work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and other technical resources to understand various processes within the plant and to drive results
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemical, Materials Science, or related engineering discipline
  • Strong organizational, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Beginner knowledge of SQL
  • Strong data analysis skills for data-driven decision making
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office products
  • Primarily day shift with occasional weekend duties but may work overtime and nights if business demands
  • Limited travel of less than 10% for new product analysis, training, and customer site visits
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment
  • 2-4 years of experience in a similar role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemical, and Materials Science
  • Experience in steelmaking or metal finishing
  • 5 + years of experience in a similar role
