Purpose
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Control Technician is responsible for the testing of finished aluminum products (coated & uncoated), evaluation of oil used in our process and performing audits of the
QMS system. The Quality Control Technician also performs research that will help develop root cause for internal and external issues that can directly impact the safety, quality, and delivery of products to our end customer.
Job Responsibilities

  • Lab work which includes oil testing, mechanical properties of aluminum and evaluation of coated products.
  • Ensure customers receive the require analysis paperwork prior to shipments.
  • Collect manufacturing data and assist with developing process improvements.
  • Coordinate and manage projects, as required.
  • Support production and maintenance, as required.
  • Support coordinators, supervisors, and managers by providing necessary quality information.
  • Communicate project objectives to team members and maintain close contact to coordinate activities with other groups within the departments.
  • Proficiently use problem solving, 8D, and 5-why for customer complaint resolutions.
  • SPC knowledge - Ability to develop and manage significant process improvements via process historical data (six sigma preferred).
  • Develop and manage FMEAS and Control Plans
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal/external customers, and outside resources concerning related technical issues.
  • Assist in driving the development and sustainability of 5S throughout the Newport facility.
  • Must be hands-on in development, implementation, and maintenance of shop floor systems.
  • Identify and standardize best practices through creation of SOPs and training effected team members.
  • Prepare reports to provide information needed to make decisions on projects.
  • Compose various weekly and monthly reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year or four-year college or university
  • 0-3 years’ experience in an industrial environment
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma management principles required
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and solve problems independently
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and coworkers
  • Data driven, must demonstrate the ability to collect, process, understand, and apply data while leading process improvement events/projects
  • Excellent skills in using Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence to achieve results through others is essential. The successful candidate must possess strong persuasion skills as well as effective coaching and communication (listening, verbal, and written) skills. The ability to achieve trust and give-and-take relationships up, down, and across the organization are paramount to this position.
