Southland Holdings is seeking a Purchasing Agent; the position will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating and purchasing materials, services and supplies in support of the Operations Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain company data base of vendors.
  • Develop and implementation of a thoughtful plan for improving the solicitation of proposals during the procurement process.
  • Develop a strategy to obtain the best pricing based on the coordination of Johnson Bros and the vendor's approach to gain a competitive edge.
  • Work with Operations Department to solicit pricing from vendors with a planned approach to receive advantageous pricing
  • Management of Good Faith Effort to track and monitor Minority suppliers and subcontractors to ensure compliance with the Contract
  • Maintain regular contact with major vendors
  • Submit and track required Confidentiality Agreements with the vendors.
  • Submit and track required Service agreements with hired consultants.
  • Manage the exchange of information provide to vendors keeping proprietary and public information separate.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
  • Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.
  • Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.
  • Experience with Excel, including the creation and maintenance of Excel databases.
  • Experience in the preparation and processing of electronic requisitions and purchase orders for supplies, services, and equipment to include the use of P-Cards.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the capability to manage multiple priorities and actions at the same time.
  • Sending out and tracking Requests for Quotations
  • Coordinate purchasing efforts with project personnel and procurement, to include developing effective internal and external working relationships.
  • Experience reviewing and maintaining tracking documentation for compliance with regulations and internal policies/procedures.
  • Experience in maintaining, reporting, and administering Inventory.
  • Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with commercial export compliance regulations.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Experience in setting up shipments with domestic and international carriers

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from four-year college or university; and 5+ years of experience or equivalent. Experience in heavy civil marine construction preferred.
