Public Technology Assistant - Schlafly

St. Louis Public Library’s Schlafly Library is seeking a part-time Public Technology Assistant. Our ideal candidate is creative, enthusiastic, patient and has a passion for serving the St. Louis community. The person in this role is committed to providing excellent customer service, is excited about working with the public, and providing technology-related assistance. In this role you will:

  • Assist customers with the utilization of Library computers, personal devices, or other equipment.
  • Troubleshoot Library equipment for customers and staff.
  • Assist with the digital training and library programs.
  • Participate in regular team discussions regarding technology, Library services, customer assistance, and other topics.
  • Communicate with managers regarding needed maintenance or Help Desk tickets for issues with technology.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance for customers through Tech Connect appointments.


You will need to be:

  • Friendly, patient, and able to build relationships at all levels.
  • Strategic about assisting customers with different levels of technological proficiency.
  • Able to see the big picture and promote consistency and excellence of service.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from customers and staff.
  • Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.


You will need to have:

  • An Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training.
  • Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer Skills and the ability to use and explain a variety of software.

Hours for this position are:

Alternating Sundays & Mondays, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday; 20 hours a week; subject to change.

  • 3 meeting rooms (one auditorium, one multi-purpose room & one smaller conference room)
