Grandma’s Kids’ is an after-school program that targets children in kinship care, single parent homes, low-income, and at-risk students. The program provides academic and socio-emotional services to K-5th graders in two elementary schools within the School District of Philadelphia, specifically in the North Philadelphia section of the City.
The goal of Grandma’s Kids program is to promote student growth via homework and academic support and provide a positive social-emotional learning environment for students to increase academic success, provide a safe and nurturing environment, and promote prosocial behavior.

The program operates following the School District of Philadelphia calendar. The position is 5 days a week for 17.5 hours, from 2:00 PM-5:30 PM, Monday-Friday (barring any early dismissals, school closing, holidays, etc).
The Part-Time After School Site Assistant will work on a team with other site assistants to supervise the daily programming at their site. The After School Site Assistant will work to maintain a safe and educational learning environment by coordinating snack time, homework tutoring, daily curriculum in the areas of STEM, literacy, and health/wellness, and indoor play. The Site Assistant is responsible for developing and coordinating daily activities, organizing materials, compiling attendance and other reports, and responding to student behaviors and concerns. The Site Assistant will report directly to the Program Coordinator.

Other important aspects of the program include caregiver engagement and respite trips. Site Assistants are expected to engage family members and caregivers in a respectful, appropriate, and warm manner. Site Assistant will develop rapport with caregivers and will be expected to communicate with them regularly through in person, text, and phone call communication. Respite trips to different educational and recreational sites around the city are taken quarterly. Site Assistants will attend and chaperone all respite trips and events. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree and at least four years of directly related experience. Master’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to work 5 days a week from 2:00 PM-5:30 PM during school year and be present at program site prior to scheduled program start time.

This position requires a background check.
This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
This is a grant funded position.
