The Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine is looking for a dedicated and motivated full-time Psychiatrist or Psychologist to join its faculty as Vice Chair of Career Development. We are seeking a qualified candidate (MD,DO, MD/PhD, PhD), at the Associate Professor or higher rank to provide vision and leadership in promoting a departmental and institute-wide culture that values and supports the successful development of early-career, mid-career, and late-career faculty and staff working in the mission areas of clinical practice advancement, education, investigation, and administration/service.
Successful candidates will have a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and HMHI with rank based on academic qualifications and scholarship. The Department has over 130 full time faculty, and over 200 adjunct faculty dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in mental health care, training, research, and academic advancement. The Department/HMHI has over 1300 staff members. HMHI is a newly formed University of Utah-wide Institute with faculty and staff throughout the institution. The Vice Chair will provide oversight and leadership of all career development initiatives at HMHI and the Department of Psychiatry.

Qualifications:
Applicants should hold or be eligible for a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine or psychology in the State of Utah and have expertise in adult psychiatry, child psychiatry, or clinical psychology. Completion of a residency in Psychiatry or an American Psychological Association approved pre-doctoral internship is required. A physician candidate must be board certified in Psychiatry. Previous faculty leadership in institutional academic advancement, 15 or more years of psychiatric clinical experience, current or a history of research funding, and high level health care administration experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
Clinical care:
Use excellent clinical skills in psychiatry or psychology to treat patients as part of a multidisciplinary care team within the U Health and HMHI hospital system. Show a strong commitment to clinical care; Call is an expected clinical responsibility for all faculty members. Provide cross coverage for vacations and meetings. Specific clinical assignments will be coordinated through the Division Chief of either Adult or Child Psychiatry.
Investigation:
Mentorship in research, which is a collaborative effort with the Vice Chair for Research/HMHI senior faculty researchers. Engage in scholarly activities; Develop durable materials (papers, courses, presentations, posters, games) based on scholarly activities.
Education:
Leading and facilitating workshops and seminars on professional development. Leadership and facilitation of innovative career development and enrichment opportunities for faculty and staff; e.g., management and leadership training. Establish a mentoring program with clear objectives and outcomes. Engage in patient care activities with learners. (Residents, medical students, and fellows and trainees from other disciplines); Serve as medical student and resident mentor; Teaching/supervising medical students, residents and fellows in psychiatric clinical rotations
Administration:
Leadership role in promotion and tenure for Department of Psychiatry faculty, which involves providing guidance and mentorship to faculty at different stages in their career. Goal champion in the Department of Psychiatry and HMHI regarding faculty/staff growth and career advancement, wellness and recruitment and retention. Other administrative service to the Department of Psychiatry, the School of Medicine and the health system, including peer review and participation on committees, may be requested; Report to and be reviewed annually by the Chair/CEO as part of School of Medicine faculty appointment.
The percentage of effort spent in clinical, education, investigation, and administrative activities will be negotiated annually. Specific assignments will be coordinated through the Executive Vice Chair and Chair of the Psychiatry department.
