Job Description:

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the Operations Team with preconstruction and operational tasks. The Project Engineer will possess competency in the following areas to perform his/her role in a productive and safe manner:
Responsible for supporting the Operations Team with Preconstruction and Operational Tasks related to:

  • Constructability / Coordination
  • Takeoffs
  • RFIs
  • Administrative items

Accountable to Project Managers and Project Coordinator.

  • Must complete tasks in a timely fashion. Upon assignment of task, deadline shall be set.
  • Must communicate to PMs/PC if tasks cannot be completed by deadline.
  • Must communicate if additional information is required to complete tasks in a complete fashion.
  • Must be engaged and understand that they are a critical component of the workflow, if work is incomplete or incorrect, that the job schedule and budget will be affected.

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES

I. PRECONSTRUCTION

  • Responsible for drawing & CAD review of the following:
  • Column Lines (Architectural vs Structural) (PDF & CAD)
  • Angles and Pivot points (Architectural vs Structural)
  • General levels / Elevations (Architectural vs Structural)
  • ADA Compliance
  • Slab Edge (Architectural vs Structural)
  • Column’s position (architectural vs structural)
  • Responsible for creating following shop drawings:
  • Construction / Control Joints
  • CIP Stair Shops (for Layout purposes)
  • Responsible for drafting 3D models for Coordination and Preconstruction use (as required)
  • Responsible for performing standard takeoffs of Misc. Material items and providing to PM/Purchasing

II. OPERATIONS

  • Responsible for receiving, drafting, submitting to GC, tracking, and uploading RFIs to PlanGrid
  • Responsible for cross-training with Project Coordinator (Kayla)

SECONDARY RESPONSBILITIES

I. PRECONSTRUCTION

  • SUBMITTAL LOG

o Update as responses come in and submittals go out

  • SMARTSHEETS MANAGEMENT
  • SUBMITTAL REGISTERS FOR ALL PROJECTS

o Update as needed

  • LEED DOCUMENTATION

o Gather and submit to GC (preferably with misc. Materials submittal)

  • CAD FILES

o Request and upload to server, send to vendors, etc.

  • GET ACCESS FOR ANY GC PROGRAMS:

PROCORE, KAHUA, ETC

  • BLACKWOOD EMPLOYEE CONTACT LIST IN SMARTSHEET

o Update as necessary

  • BLACKWOOD VENDOR CONTACT LIST IN SMARTSHEET

o Update as necessary

  • TAX EXEMPT CERTIFICATE

o Request and provide completed form to accounting

II. OPERATIONS

  • DAILY REPORTS

o Save reports to server from PG

o Submit to GC daily or weekly

o Follow up with field crew to make sure reports are submitted on time

  • PLANGRID MANAGEMENT

o Upload Drawings

o Upload RFI’S

o Upload Contract Documents : SPECS, ASI’S, BULLETINS, etc

o Create and manage tasks for pm or Field to review

o Maintain Project Documents – Update forms/templates as needed

o Provide Access for field workers or employees to projects as needed

  • RFI’S

o CREATE / PACKAGE / SUBMIT / TRACK

  • BREAKS AND INSPECTION REPORTS

o Save to project folders

FUTURE (SHARED) DELEGATION / BACKUP:

I. PRECONSTRUCTION

  • CERTIFICATES OF INSURANCE – Request, Submit, and Maintain (request yearly updated certs)

o Request from subcontractors/vendors

  • OCIP/CCIP INSURANCES – Complete, Submit, and Maintain
  • BONDS – Request and mail to GC

II. OPERATIONS

  • ALL SUBMITTALS: Rebar, Concrete, Misc. Material, CJ layout, Formwork, Safety, etc.

o Package and submit – Submit via email or others program (VIA PROCORE, KAHUA, ETC)

o Track submittal responses – Forward to vendors as necessary

  • CHANGE ORDERS

o Gather EWTS from PG

o Plug into COR template

o Submit to GC after PM review

o Add/Remove users

  • EQUIPMENT RENTALS

o Order all rental reequipment (requests from the order form)

o Call equipment off rent when field is done

o Manage rental equipment log, pricing, and provide weekly to PM team and field

o Manage equipment PO log

o Check in with Foreman on status of equipment and call off rent as needed

  • CURRENT JOB LIST / Foreman Assignments – Update as necessary
  • VVF REPORTING – Submit Quarterly

Job Requirements:

The Project Engineer will possess the knowledge, skill and/or ability in the following areas essential to perform the functions of the position.
Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of experience or 6 years of construction related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language / Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of workers involved with the project
  • Good listening skills

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry to practical situations
  • Ability to analyze and compute mathematical differences from all stages of drawings from conceptual to final drawings including development of shop drawings.
  • Ability to understand Cost Accounting.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic understanding of construction software such as Primavera, Timberline.
  • Ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires ability to maneuver in and out of job site trailers and various stages of job site terrains
  • Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel
  • Regularly required to sit, talk and listen
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms
  • Must have the ability to exert physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 15 pounds

Work Environment:

  • Work is a combination of office and field environments involving various types of conditions encountered on the construction site
  • Involves exposure to outside weather and job site conditions
