Position Purpose
Reporting to the Dartmouth Cancer Center (DCC) Associate Director for Administrative and Scientific Affairs, provides day-to-day administrative and programmatic management of a key National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center component (i.e., cancer research training and education coordination (CRTEC).

DCC (formerly Norris Cotton Cancer Center) is one of just 53 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, and the only one north of Boston and east of Buffalo. We have responsibility for advancing cancer science through educating clinicians and scientists. DCC is located at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in Lebanon, NH, and the DCC director reports jointly to the President of Dartmouth Health and the Dean of Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College.

This training & education management position is part of the central DCC administrative team working in the DHMC Rubin Building and reporting directly to the Associate Director for Administration & Scientific Affairs.

Description

Masters plus 2-3 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Master’s degree plus 2-3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience managing logistical and administrative details of multiple tasks or projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work, set priorities, and respond to pressures, deadlines, and changes in schedules and priorities.
  • Ability to understand, facilitate, and implement complex tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently, and as a member of a team.
  • Proficiency in database management, spreadsheets, website content management, and other computer software.
  • Ability to maintain and foster confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel internationally (<25%)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of experience simultaneously managing logistics and details of multiple tasks or projects.
  • Experience with training and mentoring of staff.
  • Experience in higher education working with senior leadership.
  • Experience with co-curricular activities.
  • Ability to balance competing demands and to reprioritize quickly as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and interact with all levels of management, and leadership including faculty and students.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner with a diverse set of faculty, personnel, and outside agencies.
  • Familiarity with Dartmouth accounting systems and procedures.
  • Experience with REDCap.

Description
Program Management:
Manages an evolving portfolio of DCC cancer research training & education program coordination (CRTEC) for participants, ranging from high school to junior scientists. The portfolio includes signature programs targeted to selected groups of participants and designed to enhance training relevant to careers in cancer research. Current management examples include:
  • an academic year undergraduate series (Cancer Scholars),
  • two-year undergraduate internship program (POWERED),
  • summer immersive Medical Student research experiences (TOPS),
  • assistance with predoctoral training (F Series) proposals,
  • management of institutional predoctoral training (T series) proposals,
  • assistance with junior faculty career development (K series) proposals,
  • mentor pre-award assistance with proposal aims (CAREER), and
  • research protected time for early stage clinicians (DH Faculty Fellows).

This role serves as a lead member working with a team of health and administrative professionals participating in DCC training and education project planning and student advising. Responsibilities include participation in program development, coordination of minors in programs, managing activities, communicating with internal and external participants and program leaders, facilitating application processes, organizing program related housing, supporting participants’ requests, working alongside the finance team to wholly manage program specific budgets, and coordinating activities with associated faculty. Oversees collaboration on program evaluation with Dartmouth’s Center for Program Design and Evaluation (CPDE), serving as the internal staff member to execute on CPDE-led instructions for evaluation efforts. Has primary responsibility for DCC’s TRACE database for long-term tracking of DCC’s trainees. Serves as the primary point of contact for all programs; covers logistics, on/off boarding of program participants, stipend processing, meeting coordination and planning. Additionally, partners with DCC managers in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and in Community Outreach and Engagement, to co-manage initiatives that intentionally span consideration of training, participant diversity, and community engagement impacts.

Administrative Support:
Provides administrative support to the DCC Cancer Research Training & Education Coordination (CRTEC) component through the management of calendars, coordination of meetings, and communications. Administrative support for faculty participation in training & education grant preparation, post-award management, publication development, and travel. Sets and maintains administration schedules and timelines to meet project milestone requirements.
Supports other grant-writing and projects related to the training & education administration of the Cancer Center as assigned.
Performs other duties as required.
