NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant to work with the Northern Rockies, International Wildlife, and Marine Mammals teams in our Bozeman office.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant will provide research, budget management, and administrative support for NRDC’s policy and advocacy efforts. The Program Assistant will support members of the Nature Program’s Northern Rockies, International Wildlife, and Marine Mammals teams to ensure sound wildlife management policies and adequate habitat for keystone species such as grizzly bears and beavers, advocate for biodiversity conservation at international forums, and reduce threats to marine mammals like ocean noise. On occasion, addressing general needs within the Nature Program will be required in collaboration with program assistants in other NRDC offices.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative support for members of the Northern Rockies, International Wildlife, and Marine Mammals staff.
  • Process and track invoices, contracts, grant spending, and other expenses in a timely manner.
  • Support and coordinate the team’s logistical and travel needs at internal or external events and meetings.
  • Coordinate with the Workplace Strategies team to ensure general management and efficient operations of the Northern Rockies office in line with NRDC’s commitment to maintaining environmentally sustainable business operations, including managing vendor relationships and ordering office supplies.
  • Manage onboarding for new, Bozeman-based employees and interns in cooperation with Human Resources, Workplace Strategies, and Information Technology staff.
  • Support NRDC’s Northern Rockies, International Wildlife, and Marine Mammal team staff to advance priority issues.
  • Research topics as needed with a focus on wildlife and biodiversity issues.
  • Write, edit, and proofread policy documents, external correspondence, reports, and other written materials.
  • Contribute to special projects as they arise.
  • Support NRDC’s partnership efforts as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team and navigate a dynamic work environment
  • Highly organized and excellent time-management skills
  • Interest in environmental and social justice issues
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of and competency in equity and inclusion, including contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Commitment to NRDC’s mission and values
Preferred
  • Professional or related experience working with an advocacy organization, non-profit, or equivalent entity
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with budgeting, accounting and finance systems
  • Strong project management skills a plus

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary is $50,000 to $55,000.

Since March 2020, NRDC’s offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be associated with one of our offices, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support NRDCers with remote working arrangements.
