General Summary

General - The Production Manager position is an exempt position responsible for managing Mermet’s manufacturing processes.

Policy Making Responsibility - The Production Manager will be responsible ensuring the timely production of product which meets defined standards.

Decision Making Responsibility - Routine decisions include, but are not limited to, decision in regard to evaluating production employee needs.

Supervisory Responsibility – This position has supervisory responsibility of hourly production employees and the production supervisors.

Safety – Employees are responsible for individual compliance with all safety rules, regulations and policy procedures. Employee responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Complying with all safety rules and regulations
  • Reporting any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor
  • Maintaining floor safety discipline by interceding with fellow employees, who may engage in rule violations and/or unsafe, unhealthy activities
  • Communicating to management those employees who persist in violations of safety rules and/or procedures
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment properly and reporting any defective PPE
  • Reporting all near misses, accidents, injuries or illnesses, including Muscular Skeletal symptoms or disorders

Essential Responsibilities

The essential functions of this position may include any or all of the following, to be performed alone, or with assistance from others:

  • Maximize efficiency and quality of production and maintain operations data
  • Ensure all plant policies are implemented and followed and handle all employee disciplinary actions as assigned
  • Maintain and enforce all safety programs and procedures
  • Ensure operational consistency through the use of training, development and audits
  • Ensure and monitor operational consistency across employees through audits and the development and implementation of Cross Training plans
  • Plan and coordinate the work of the production staff
  • Coordinate, Organize, manage all plant leaders such as supervisors, team leads in their daily activities
  • Communicate production and quality performance ( KPIs ) to employees, support team and Director of Operations.
  • Analyze and/or recommend and/or implement measures to improve production methods, equipment and employee performance, product quality and efficiency
  • Assist in resolving conflicts between manufacturing employees and supervisors on an as needed basis
  • Responsible for the overall management of the team which includes both the day and the night shift.
  • Participate in hiring production associates, manage and improve on boarding training.
  • Provide production associates with performance feedback and improvement plan when necessary in coordination with HR department and direct supervisor
  • Perform and / or manage some administrative tasks such as but not limited to: payroll, AX , Just data maintenance, KPIs
  • Work closely with all other departments to maintain an optimal plant performance and team spirit

Essential Physical Demands and Working Conditions

In this position, the employee will be subjected to physical demands requiring:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to perform standard office body movements
  • Frequent sitting at desk and using computer keyboard
  • Frequent standing and walking around
  • Occasional bending, squatting, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing
  • Ability to use a computer including visual acuity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • Ability to tolerate moderate office and production floor noise levels

Hours of work – The normal work hours for this position are 40+ per week. The Production Manager will normally work day shift hours.

Education, Experience and Skills

The Production Manager position has the following required (or preferred, as indicated) education, experience and skills:

Education:

Required: A bachelor’s degree or 10+ years of equivalent experience in production management for a manufacturer

Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of production process technics such as Lean Manufacturing
  • Strong supervisory skills
  • Strong experience in managing multiple shifts.
  • Strong computer knowledge. Excel / Words.
  • Strong ability to learn other computer software such as but not limited to AX, Just
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment and solicit the assistance of others
  • Strong ability to conduct work in a self-directed manner with limited supervision
  • Strong ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong ability to resolve conflicts
  • Compliance with Hunter Douglas and Mermet policies and codes of conduct

Evaluation criteria

The Production Manager’s performance will be accessed periodically as deemed necessary by management, but no less than annually. Evaluation criteria will include but will not necessarily be limited to:

Objective measures, including:

  • Attendance
  • Annually developed objectives
  • Compliance with Hunter Douglas and Mermet policies, including codes of conduct

Subjective measures, including

  • Department morale
  • Degree of efficiency and product knowledge
  • Any customer or co-worker feedback

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
