Workman Children’s department, an imprint under the Workman Publishing division of Hachette Book Group, is seeking a detail-oriented Production Designer who will assist part time (approximately 25 hours a week) in developing innovative non-fiction trade and curriculum books for children. Our books include board books, novelty, middle grade, graphic novels, activity books, and workbooks.

Working with a small, collaborative team of editors and designers, this designer will be responsible for type corrections, checking file set-up, illustration adjustments, and production-oriented design work. The designer will track projects, collaborate with the art director, other designers, and the typesetting department, to solve problems and keep our books on schedule.

Essential duties:

• Work with the art director and design team to develop and execute children’s book layouts
• Meet regularly with the art director to identify and solve problems
• Track projects and keep books on schedule

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience, including print production
• Collaborative person with superb communication skills
• Excellent type skills are essential
• Outstanding attention to detail
• Proven ability to stick to a schedule and problem-solve
