What Product Management Does

We work as cross-functional teams defining new products, services, and features of the Packsize platform for our on-demand box making machines, integrations with other systems, data and analytics, optimizing complex workflows, and more. We are highly collaborative with Engineering, UX Design, senior management, stakeholders, and our customers. We are continuously looking at the health of our product culture and how we can learn and improve. We also investigate new technologies and how we will leverage them to solve problems in new and better ways including IoT, cloud, and stream analytics.

The Challenge

We work in the unique space where software meets hardware. Required experience in managing and navigating the complexity of hardware, programmable logic control (plc) software, and application software will be an asset as we continue to make on-demand, right-sized packaging a reality for our customers.

Our core product team is located at our headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. You will work with a cross-functional team of engineers and UX designers to identify what we build into our reporting and analytics products. You will collect and synthesize data points to identify the problem to solve that will deliver the most value.

Product Managers are critical to the success of our future as they work to implement product features into our current portfolio of products. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will be critical in gaining alignment on your team and across stakeholders.

We focus on Lean Software development, you should feel comfortable navigating and organizing work items with kanban tools and identifying, analyzing, and communicating customer value. Continuous learning and improvement should be part of your daily life.

As the reporting and analytics Product Manager, it is your responsibility to understand our domain and empathize with our customers. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your passion for product discovery by conducting user research. You will work with UX Designers on a daily basis as you research, test assumptions, and drive product strategy. Working with our software engineers on a daily basis is something you are comfortable with and seeking their expertise is key to establishing the feasibility of solutions and planning the pace of delivery. Your leadership sets the tone in determining what gets developed and what does not.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete ownership of the reporting and analytics products and associated strategies, Identifying and building value for our customers and bringing that value to market.
  • Learn the complex domain of On-Demand Packaging and how it can be leveraged to streamline our customers’ shipping processes. Develop a deep understanding of - and empathy for - our customers.
  • A focus on outcome-driven activities over a process. i.e., “What impact do we want to achieve?”
  • Utilize lean software development and optimize for value delivery. Your involvement in all aspects of the product delivery are key to its success, from discovery to development, delivery and beyond.
  • Understand and manage cross-group collaboration, dependencies, and risks to deliver on schedule and with world-class quality. The ability to drive collaboration across teams is essential to success. You play a critical role in creating alignment across the organization.
  • Facilitate and guide groups of people towards a decision and when difficult decisions must be made, you are comfortable leveraging data to choose a course of action.
  • You are an excellent communicator. You provide honest and candid feedback while also seeking feedback from others.
  • You ask specific questions, understand subtle differences, and challenge what has previously been done.
  • You define success and success metrics but are not afraid of missteps. You leverage small experiments to inform changes in strategy and approaches to accomplishing the vision.
  • You reflect the strategic priorities of Packsize. You fully understand - and have the ability to articulate - the problem, the solution, the vision, the ecosystem in which your product will function, and how the product and ecosystem will interact and impact each other. You are comfortable discussing these things with your team, presenting high level concepts to leadership and stakeholders, and supporting high profile customers.
  • You focus on and gather the voice of the customer through discovery steps and user testing to attain a high level of confidence that you and your team are building the right thing.
  • You own the pricing strategies for our data and analytics products based on your experience in pricing software solutions which tie to our platform offering.
  • You are proactive about creating the conditions necessary for your team’s success. When there is something needed for success you actively take steps to explore possible solutions.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Travel to visit customers at their locations (up to 15%)
