The incumbent: Provides scientific advice on policies to integrate and improve programmatic efforts into broader public health program efforts at federal , tribal, territorial, and local levels. Serves as primary scientific adviser to the NCIPC Director, and other senior staff including the Deputy Directory for Management and Operations, on scientific issues in public health research, epidemiology, surveillance, data science biostatistics, economics, behavioral science, policy and program implementation and evaluation as well as center priorities, including drug overdose, suicide prevention, and adverse childhood experiences. Represents CDC in matters of science in appearances before Congress, HHS, White House, international forums, and other high-ranking bodies (i.e., WHO, PAHO, and international ministries of health). Collaborates with leaders and scientists in other centers to coordinate and facilitate strategies, programs and procedures to ensure integration of the organization's science with CDC's broader scientific enterprise in particular areas of drug overdose, suicide prevention, and adverse childhood experiences. Directs the development and implementation of internal programs to recognize scientific excellence and accomplishment within the organization.
Education

Current federal employees must be at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or above to be considered for this position. Basic Qualifications for RF-0602: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association http://www.ama-assn.org/councils/council-medical-education/about-council-medical-education; Association of American Medical Colleges http://www.aamc.org/; Liaison Committee on Medical Education http://www.chea.org/liaison-committee-medical-education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association http://osteopathic.org/accreditation/, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education http://ope.ed.gov/dapip/#/home at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States.
