About the position:

Encircle Therapy is looking to hire multiple full-time (40/hrs) & part-time (30/hrs) mental health primary therapists who specialize in or seek to specialize in LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy. The therapist is responsible for conducting individual, couples, family, & group therapy services, completing appropriate clinical documentation (i.e., assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries), maintaining their clinical schedule, & serving crisis/walk-in patients & crisis telephone calls. The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients in the LGBTQIA+ & BIPOC communities, religiously conservative communities, &/or intersectionality marginalized identities. Candidates should have a high level of emotional intelligence, self-awareness, & cultural humility.

Motivated by an increasing number of sexual & gender minority youth experiencing alienation from their families & communities, including high rates of suicide, Encircle began building homes in conservative communities across Utah in 2017 to provide life-saving & affirming programming to LGBTQIA+ youth & their families. Encircle utilizes a neutral approach: No Sides, Only Love. This focus is emblematic of Encircle’s mission—bringing families & communities together to enable LGBTQIA+ youth to thrive.

Job Description:


Intake, Assessment, & Treatment Planning

  • Conducts thorough, comprehensive, time-limited intake assessments with each assigned client. Primary therapist responsible for completing initial (triage) assessment, ensuring documentation is complete, and facilitating placement with therapists based on clinical indications and specialization, availability, and other goodness of fit factors.
  • Facilitates the participation of the client in the development of goal-oriented treatment planning with measurable outcomes that applies knowledge of evidence-based practice.
  • Provides crisis assessment using a validated tool (e.g., C-SSRS) & facilitates hospitalization if needed.
  • Assesses discharge readiness throughout treatment.

Clinical Practice

  • Provide individual, group, couples, & family psychotherapy services consistent with standards of care.
  • Maintain a caseload consistent with Encircle Therapy policies.
  • Ensures appropriate clinical treatment congruent with the most current versions of the DSM.
  • Utilizes validated tools (e.g. GAD, PHQ) to measure treatment needs, progress, & outcomes.
  • Provides case formulation for clients from a sound theoretical knowledge base.
  • Attends clinical supervision with a designated clinical supervisor.
  • Assess client & caregiver need for psycho-education; provides such education as appropriate, makes referrals for additional educational resources as needed.

Referral & Advocacy

  • Assists clients in identifying & assessing various resources
  • Provides timely referrals & monitors progress.
  • Effectively advocates for clients.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all client, collateral, & agency contact.

Monitoring, Reassessment, & Transition Planning

  • Monitors client progress toward treatment plan goals & objectives.
  • Reassesses client needs in a clinically appropriate time frame & consistent with standards of care & policies.
  • Provides ongoing assessment of client’s level of care needs, coordinating client transfer to a higher level of care or discharge from care, as clinically appropriate.

Case Coordination

  • Actively participates in case consultation/group supervision & multi-disciplinary meetings.
  • Effectively coordinates with other disciplines & leadership to address client needs & treatment goals.

Administration

  • Maintains accurate & up-to-date records & computer information on assigned clients in accordance with applicable guidelines, regulations, organizational policy, & professional standards.
  • Ensures progress notes are accessible to the care team & considers that they may be accessible to the patient, third-party payers, accreditation entities, &/or courts of law.
  • Conducts quarterly peer-review chart audits in accordance with Quality Improvement procedures.
  • Clinical documentation: completed, signed, & locked in accordance with policy

Performance & Quality Improvement

  • Participates in quality assurance & quality improvement measures.
  • Works with a supervisor to identify areas for performance improvement & professional development.
  • Attends & participates in internal & external in-services, workshops, & conferences to keep informed and inform of changes & innovations in the field.
  • Completes all compliance trainings & adheres to organizational policies
  • Understands & participates in quality improvement activities of the organization.

Principal Working Relationships:

  • Reports to the CCO, VP of Clinical Operations, or their designee.
  • Receives supervision as necessary around service provision & clinical intervention.
  • Works in collaboration with assigned clients.
  • Collaborates with Encircle therapy & programs staff, leadership, & volunteers.
  • May supervise interns (or staff), as assigned.
  • Functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Maintains relationships with other organizations as necessary to facilitate services to clients.
  • Attends required meetings & serves on committees & task forces, as assigned.

Education & Experience Required

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) or Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT)
  • Current independent* licensure (or licensurable) in Utah & additional states as required.
  • Clinical or professional experience with & sensitivity to LGBT issues & BIPOC communities.
  • Completion of required continuing education to maintain clinical license & enhance professional skills
  • Maintain active & unrestricted clinical license(s).
  • Fluency in Spanish or ASL is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting: No more than 20 lbs. & infrequently.
  • Movement: Standing and/or sitting for long periods.
  • Visual: Long periods of computer use.
  • Concentration: Extended periods of engagement with clients, computer systems, & telecommunication systems.
  • Communication: Direct & indirect communication. Written & verbal competency.
