Job Title: Tier 2 & 3 - Academic Intervention Specialist- Reading and Mathematics
Department: Saint Labre Catholic School
Report To: Elementary Principal
Job Code: Exempt 9-month position
Salary Grade: Certified Salary Schedule

Academic Intervention Specialist works extensively with students, both one-on-one or in small groups, to help them strengthen targeted reading and math skills. The goal is for these students is to develop proficiency in the reading and/or math skills that contribute to their academic growth. The interventions will address the specific needs of a particular child when regular classroom instruction is not sufficient. This position is responsible for working with students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade, as well as periodically coaching teachers and support staff in reading and math strategies that can be used in the classroom.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. *Indicates the non-essential duties and responsibilities. Nothing in this job description restricts St. Labre’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

  • Complete and pass Safe and Sacred for the Diocese of Great Falls/Billings
  • Partner with classroom teachers and school staff and actively engage in team-based planning and shared decision-making
  • Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading and math instruction using a progress-monitoring instrument as a base.
  • Develop daily, interactive lesson plans and activities that are based on the individual needs of the students
  • Regularly administer, as well as the share results of, assessments or surveys which monitor a students abilities and attitudes towards learning and academic achievement.
  • Work with teachers to diagnose reading and math strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials
  • Assist teachers and support staff in implementing the schools reading program. (Fountas and Pinnell Classroom)
  • Participate in educational conferences, professional development seminars, and workshops
  • Work collaboratively with the classroom teachers and district personnel to coordinate reading and/or math instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Work with school administration to facilitate the coordination of reading and math program with the total curriculum
  • Must be willing to be trained in the school’s adopted reading and math intervention programs.
  • Facilitate grade level PLC’s
  • Familiar with the RTI process and Tiered Instruction
  • Perform other responsibilities as many, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and one to three years related experience and/or training preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Montana Teaching Certificate or sufficient credits for state accreditation as a teacher with Reading Endorsement.
Valid Montana driver’s license preferred.
