About The Job
Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Portfolio Analytics and Strategy Analyst. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, assist in the running and maintaining the Bank’s CECL model and related reports/analytics, loan portfolio analytics and reports and review and analysis of loan portfolios related to potential mergers & acquisitions. As part of portfolio risk, responsibilities include quality assurance for commercial, consumer, and mortgage loans. Maintains in-depth knowledge of loan classifications, regulatory guidelines, internal loan policy, servicing, and general banking. Working on this team provides excellent exposure to Senior Management, bank operations, other departments within the bank and external regulators/vendors.

Areas of focus:
ALLOWANCE FOR CREDIT LOSSES (CECL)
Works with the CECL Working Group and Asset Quality team to prepare the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) using the Bank’s CECL model and commercial loan Watch List. Reviews the loan portfolio on an ongoing basis to maintain proper classifications and codes that impact the bank’s reporting and ACL

REPORTING
Develops, prepares, gathers and analyzes reports that are distributed to Lines of Business Managers, Executive Officers and Board Members. Oversees portfolio performance against KPI targets and analyzes data and trends. Business Intelligence Center (BIC) and other Support Systems, such as CREInsight and the bank’s internal data warehouse, are used for the development of these reports.

PORTFOLIO ANALYTICS
Analyzes the portfolio to identify operational, regulatory and/or credit risk. Such analysis involves: risk rating migration, concentration, LTV, geography, non-performing assets, exceptions, and stress testing. Work may require extensive loan review to gather data. Develops new practices and systems to ensure ongoing data integrity.

MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS
Assist in the due diligence of and credit review and valuation of loan portfolios as part of a potential acquisition. Determine factors used to identify Purchase Credit Deteriorated loans. Generate discounted cash flows and related fair values of loans applying credit and discount rate assumptions such as Probability of Default, Loss Given Default and Discount Rate.


LOAN EXAMINATION/REVIEW

Works with internal and external examiners/auditors in accordance with the bank’s SOX controls. Creates reports that are outside the scope of the examiners and loan reviewers to ensure quality in all lending areas. Thoroughly understands the bank’s credit policy, guidelines, and controls in order to keep credit strategy in line with desired risk goals.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Works closely with the Director of Credit Analytics on larger projects that impact the Credit and Loan Administration departments. Many projects will require collaboration with other department leads, including, but not limited to: Finance, Loan Administration, Regulatory Management, Audit, and the Project Management Office. Examples of such projects may include development of the bank’s internal data warehouse, enhancing system capabilities to support ongoing stress testing efforts, and improving the bank’s covenant monitoring process.

Required Skills:

Position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or related field with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of responsible experience in Banking, Finance or Financial Valuation. .
Advanced level of skill using personal computer applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, is necessary to design and develop reports or systems as needed.
Knowledge of and ability to perform Discounted Cash Flow Analysis, CAPM calculation, Net Present Value, IRR analysis.
Familiarity with and ability to use programming languages such as Java, Python and R.
Advanced problem solving skills are needed to find solutions to problems that are technically complex and require collection, interpretation, and analysis of data from diverse sources is required.
Interpersonal skills are needed in order to interact with members of various internal departments, Loan Accounting, management, and/or clients.
SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements.

Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions.

Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.
