New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexity, chronic health conditions, significant disabilities and behavioral challenges. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Behavior Technician (ABA Therapist) to join its Peter Haje Center for Autism.

The Behavior Technician will report to the Lead Behavior Analyst of The Peter Haje Center for Autism within the Comprehensive Healthcare Center (CHC) located at New Alternatives for Children, Inc. NAC’s on-site CHC includes Article 31 and Article 28 clinics and delivers a range of integrated interdisciplinary medical and mental health services. The hallmark of the agency is assuring quality professional and strength-based services to children and families involved in the child welfare system.

Department/Program: The Peter Haje Center for Autism at New Alternatives for Children is one of many programs within NAC’s Mental Health Clinic, as part of the Comprehensive Healthcare Clinic. NAC’s Mental Health Clinic provides a full range of psychiatric and psychological services, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy. NAC provides ABA therapy as part of its Family Centered Treatment approach. Parents and caregivers are critical contributors to treatment, and valued members of each ABA treatment team.

Description of Responsibilities:

· Deliver ABA therapy to clients who have autism, including but not limited to the use of, Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT), Natural Environment Teaching (NET), Reinforcement Systems, Extinction Procedures, Verbal Behavior, Task Analysis, Behavior Reduction, Adaptive Daily Living Skills Training, Vocational Skills Training and Social Skills Training

· Understand and explain basic ABA principles

· Implement Treatment Plan and Behavior Intervention Plan

· Collect and graph ABA program and behavioral data per session

· Take daily descriptive log notes of each session

· Maintain client records and program data

· Communicate professionally with caregivers and relevant NAC staff

· Communicate consistently with Supervising BCBA/LBA

· Must be available for afternoon hours on a consistent basis

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work or related field (preferred)
  • Requires a minimum of 6 months experience implementing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals who present with challenging behaviors
  • Experience working with a variety of individuals is highly preferred.
  • Experience with AAC devices and/or picture-based communication systems

Required Skills:

  • Requires a minimum of 1 year experience working with children and/or young adults who have neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism.
  • Crisis intervention training is preferred but not required
