JOB SUMMARY:

The Peer Support Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to individuals with a history of mental health concerns and/or substance use to help promote long-term recovery and prevent relapse. The Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. Our program services adult and youth referred through the Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) in Milwaukee County. This position will support and assist consumers in working toward their individualized recovery goals.

LOCATION & HOURS: Position is based at West Allis, WI office. Hours will vary, typicdally Monday-Friday between 9:00am to 5:00pm with occasional evenings to accommodate clients' needs.

SALARY: $15.00-21.00 per hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate as an integral part of the person’s identified recovery team.
  • Provide recipients with information and insight about recovery.
  • Exercise judgment to intervene as an advocate in school, the community and during emergency and crisis situations.
  • Provide support groups to interested service recipients.
  • Provide support in connecting service recipients with community organizations and support groups.
  • Attend youth/family team meetings.
  • Complete billing and other documentation in accordance with Comprehensive Community Services standards.
Requirements:
  • Must have reliable transportation on a daily basis, a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • At a minimum, must possess a High School Diploma; Bachelors Degree is preferred.
  • Must be certified through the State of Wisconsin as a Peer Support Specialist.
  • Previous experience working with adults and youth with mental illness and/or substance use disorders is required.
