The Peer Specialist is an office and community-based position which assists Crisis Evaluators in providing immediate response to mental health crisis situations with the primary mission of reducing the need for hospitalization by utilizing the least restrictive setting whenever possible. In this role, you will provide peer mentoring over the phone and in person, provide assistance to consumers incorporating recovery-based, client-centered approaches, harm reduction strategies, and encourage the use of the 12-step model when needed.

As an active member of the clinical team, you will provide peer support services throughout the Florida Parishes.

During any given day you can expect to:

  • Provide telephonic crisis intervention services and face-to-face services at clients' homes, and other community locations as deemed safe and necessary

  • Assist in the de-escalation and stabilization of clients in crisis

  • Arrange transportation for clients to various locations, including hospitals, mental health clinics, and other community locations

  • Assist clients with connection to services

  • Keep accurate case records

  • Assist in the intake process, including assessment and referral

  • Provide assertive outreach when necessary to engage clients

  • Interact professionally and in a timely manner with all people and agencies involved in the case.

  • Attend monthly team meetings

  • Other duties may be assigned

In order to perform this role successfully, you will need:

  • Minimum 1 year of work experience.

  • Experience working with individuals with severe mental health issues, and substance use disorders (strongly preferred)

Required Education

  • A minimum of a high school diploma

  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's license and auto insurance

  • Must be able to pass Criminal Background check

  • Must have flexibility in assigned work hours

  • Applicants must also be good team players and enjoy being part of a diverse workforce

  • A good command of the English language, both written and spoken
