The Peer Forum Moderator is responsible for leading one or more co-curricular, curricular (for credit) and mixed (some students taking Peer Forum as a for credit independent study and some taking it as a co-curricular) Peer Forums. In this capacity, the moderator generally follows the guidelines for Peer Forum as designed by the IFE but may use their own exercises and use their own discretion as to how to meet the needs of their group. The Peer Forum Moderator is responsible for developing the emotional intelligence capacity of students, particularly in the context of entrepreneurship in a family context, by using the guidelines and processes of the IFE Peer Forum program. The Peer Forum Moderator is also responsible for managing their group in terms of attendance, engagement, and concerns that may arise.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads one or more groups of approximately 8 students in Peer Forum meetings generally one time per month for two hours. Peer Forum may be comprised of all graduate students or of all undergraduate students.
  • Understands the key components of the Peer Forum process and uses the IFE’s materials or materials the moderator feels will accomplish the goals of Peer Forum for their specific group
  • Meets with each student one time per year to assist with preparation for the student’s presentation, a part of the Peer Forum process.
  • Attends Peer Forum moderator training and planning meetings (generally two per year) and provides feedback and ideas to guide the further development of the program
  • If leading for credit students, grades the students’ participation, final paper, and presentation according to the grading rubric.
Education Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required : Bachelor’s Degree for leading UG Peer Forums and Graduate co-curricular groups .
MBA for leading graduate groups containing for credit students
Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
  • 15+ years in a senior leadership role in entrepreneurship and/or growth-oriented business
  • 15+ years-experience in family business, family therapy, and/or psychology
  • An understanding of the importance of emotional intelligence and the ability to deploy it.
  • Prior experience with personal growth and exploration programs or experiences
  • A strong desire to work with college and graduate students. Prior teaching experience at that level is a plus.
  • Technological skills sufficient to engage with Babson’s standard technology such as Canvas and Webex
  • Able to act independently, to problem solve, to co-create the program and to create program adjustments as needed
  • High degree of commitment to this program and to representing Babson
Working Conditions:
  • Approximately 3 hours per month during the academic year per forum plus approximately two planning meetings per year
  • Work may be on site at Babson or remote (virtual forums)
