Job Duties

The Payroll Office at Virginia State University processes payroll financial transactions in accordance with Virginia Commonwealth and University policies and procedures; and provides timely, accurate and complete financial information to faculty, staff, students, administrators of the University Board of Visitors, and external users in accordance with policy and procedures.
Position ensures that all records are filed, set up, and maintained in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia policies and procedures; will ensure all documentation received to process payments; will review payroll reports/transactions to ensure they are processed accurately; will respond timely and appropriately to employees and external requests; will assist with enrolling and training employees on KRONOS, an automated timekeeping system; will prepare and maintain payroll reports related to each pay cycle; will ensure critical payroll deadlines are met and provide timely and responsive customer service;

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent with experience in business, office management or related field; administrative support experience; recordkeeping experience; successful candidates will have a firm understanding of the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of personnel records; experience handling sensitive and confidential information is required; must have ability to work on several projects, activities, and assignments simultaneously with moderate supervision; must have experience meeting deadlines; must have ability to perform detailed work with numerical data and make arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately; must have demonstrated strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required; must have demonstrated experience using MS Office Suite; i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in higher education environment is preferred.
