Job Summary
The Payment Posting Specialist is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and timely entry of incoming payments for payer ACH, lock boxes and other revenue accounts. This position is also responsible for researching suspense, recoupments and canceled checks, as well as various other cash related duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Posts payments and adjustments exceptions from an electronic file, and ensures each batch is balanced daily.
  • Posts payments and adjustments from bank lock-box and ensures each batch is balanced daily.
  • Posts other types of payments and adjustments from collection agency, interoffice transfers, time of service and credit card payments.
  • Reviews Explanation of Benefits to assure proper payment and adjustment has been received.
  • Verifies appropriate financial classification status is loaded into registration.
  • Verify the payment received is paid per the specific payer contract.
  • Contact insurance companies on questionable EOBs?
  • Understands how to work recoupments and offsets for both government and commercial payers.
  • Able to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
The successful applicant will possess
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficiency in healthcare insurance billing and reimbursement guidelines
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft excel
  • Knowledge of Eclinical Works (ECW) practice management/billing systems is a plus
Education/Experience/Skills/Certifications
High school diploma or GED required. At minimum three (3) years’ of related work experience. Knowledge of insurance payment processing. Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to operate personal computer and CRT. Ability to maintain accuracy. Ability to approach problems/decisions analytically.
