Patient Services Specialist - Ballard (Per Diem / Nights)

Processes all walk-in patients requesting assistance through financial aide programs and assists patients in determining alternate sources of coverage for hospital stays as well as payments arrangements for private pay accounts. Serves as the POS team expert to facilitate all aspects of registration and financial counseling functions for patients during their hospitalization. Coordinates coverage issues with the Patient Verification Representative, Physician offices and the POS team. Along with POS Team members, is accountable for assuring timely and accurate patient information flow. In addition to performing all facets and requirements of patient interviewing, the Patient Registration Coordinator oversees work flow and general operations on a given shift at the direction of the management staff.

  • Accurately registers patients into the electronic medical records. Verifies accurate patient information, including coverage eligibility and PCP. Interview patients and family to obtain required demographic and financial data.
  • Compiles, maintains and files patient charts, including chart purging procedures. Documents, verifies, and updates complete and accurate information on all appropriate chart forms. Manages the information required to meet regulatory requirements such as HIPPA and PHI. Reviews information on L&I/Self-insures claims to ensure quality and accuracy, and sends to appropriate department. Scans and associates consent forms, ID/Insurance cards, and miscellaneous forms as needed.
  • Obtains and witnesses patient’s signature for consent/financial responsibility/CPR acknowledgment.
  • Obtains specific information required for Medicare claims processing, such as the MSPQ. Accesses insurance verification programs such as Passport and One Health Port. Verifies insurance information and eligibility.
  • Responsible for timely corrections in work queues. Quality Auditing work in patient, account and claim work queues and assists in resolving errors. Serves in directing team’s individual work in WQs, completion and accountability of this work.
  • Initial contact for patients and visitors for directions and billing inquiries. Escorts family and visitors to patient rooms. Answers patient and family questions related to billing and refers to billing office as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • 6 months Recent receptionist or front desk experience in a health care field.
  • Experience with medical terminology and basic medical record processes.
