Patient Services Advisor

Full-time, Monday Friday, [8am-5pm], no weekends, no holidays.

Become a critical part of Eastern North Carolina's largest, private, medical-surgical, multispecialty health care practice of nearly 700 employees, as a Patient Services Advisor. Our Practice and our Providers depend on the important work of our Patient Services Advisor as they provide a critical component in delivering quality, cost-efficient, comprehensive health care to the people of eastern North Carolina.

Working under the supervision of the Collections and Patient Reimbursement Supervisor, the Patient Services Advisor is responsible for reviewing patient billing information, debt, and unpaid insurance claims and collecting outstanding payments for services provided. This position is also responsible for helping the patient set up an applicable payment plan so that they can manage repayment.

The successful candidate must be a hard-working, dependable, and enthusiastic professional, comfortable working with a high degree of attention to detail and discretion as well as have exceptional organizational and time management skills and a strong sense of team commitment, which includes excellent follow-through and feedback to all applicable parties. Ability to think and work independently and with direction and communicate with staff members in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. negotiation skills in this career because you often have to set up payment plans and alternative payment options for those in debt.

Qualifications and Key Skills include:

• Associates Degree strongly preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in insurance and billing setting, telephone communications and collections experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience required. Previous experience in a similar field, including employment as a call center worker, credit authorizer or customer service representative, is also beneficial.
• Previous experience in collections or insurance or medical billing. Knowledge of explanation of benefits (EOB's) and understanding of copays, coinsurance, deductibles and denial codes. Working knowledge of insurance carrier guidelines and billing processes in how it relates to patient collections.

Must be able to work independently and as a TEAM and be comfortable and confident in working with Electronic Medical Records and other related IT systems.
