Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH) was founded in 1989 with an original mission of serving the region's agricultural workers by linking individuals to area resources and providing essential health services. In 2009 the organization expanded to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), serving patients of all incomes, ethnicities and walks of life. Over the last decade, FLCH has grown to provide medical, dental, and behavioral health services to over 28,000 patients at eight health centers. Job Summary:

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) serves as the face of Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH), greeting patients as they enter the Health Center. The PSR serves as a resource and guide for patients of FLCH, assisting them with documentation, scheduling their visits, and directing them to the right resources; education and sharing of information is a big part of the PSR’s job. This position ensures accurate collection and entry of patient information and is the source for data used throughout the organization.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients calling or visiting the health center
  • Provides direct assistance, takes messages and/or direct calls to the appropriate party
  • Updates electronic patient records, at every contact (Phone and in person).
  • Registers, schedules, and verifies patient appointments.
  • Documents no shows and cancellations in a timely manner, with appropriate follow up as needed
  • Reviews patient intake forms upon receipt
  • Ensures patient documentation is current, complete, and accurate
  • Attends morning huddles with medical and/or dental providers
  • Compiles and forwards New Patient Packets
  • Maintains and monitors registry lists to contact patients to schedule overdue appointments
  • Assists patients in completing intake/yearly demographic paperwork
  • Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility; contacts patients as necessary to ensure correct insurance information is on file.
  • Educates patients regarding the Finger Lakes Community Health sliding fee program.
  • Reconciliation of daily payments and cashbox following organizational policies and procedures.
  • Post patient payments and reconcile payments with patient balances per organizational policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Possesses organizational skills
  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings and weekends.
  • Knowledgeable of all organizational programs that could benefit patients
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients and coworkers
  • Proficient Bilingual Spanish highly desirable

Education and Experience:

  • High School or Equivalency Diploma
  • Prior customer experience highly desirable

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to hear and communicate with clients and staff on the telephone and those who are served “in person.”
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must have vision that is adequate to read memo’s computer screen, registration forms, and other documents.
  • Must possess manual dexterity, to perform writing and keyboarding tasks.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
