Position Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is part of a healthcare team assisting medical providers in rendering professional care to patients within an ambulatory/primary care setting.

Core Job Responsibilities:
  • Take vital signs, perform phlebotomy and quality controls, EKG’s, monitor patient’s charts and assess patient needs through discussion with patient and /or family. Report findings to health care team.
  • Respond to patient questions and ensure that needs of patients and their families are addressed while health center policy is followed.
  • Return patients phone calls, schedule patient appointments, and assist with patient registration
  • Documentation of patient’s health history, screening questionnaires, and medication reconciliation
  • Ensure sufficient and appropriate supplies are available in exam rooms.
  • Chaperone procedures as well as ensure proper set up, documentation, and removal/clean-up of biohazardous materials.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with providers, front desk staff and other clinic employees and utilizes a team-based approach to coordinate patient care.
  • Complete the patient check-out procedure at the end of the visit, including any follow up needed. Ensure all patient concerns have been met prior to the patient’s departure.
  • Provide de-escalation; calm and/or defuse irate callers and patients by working with them to identify and properly address concerns.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements/Preferences
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Patient Care Technician certification from an accredited program required
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience required
  • CPR certification required
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, etc.) required
  • Basic proficiency with EHR preferred, Epic a plus
