SMS is seeking a Patient Scheduler to join our growing team. Our team provides exceptional care and customer service to the people that matter most - the patients.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handle inbound and outbound telephone calls to schedule patients for PET/CT exams
  • Complete patient screening form with patient
  • Educate patient on the exam and exam preparation
  • Manage and place orders for exam medication

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven customer service skills
  • Previous patient scheduling, call center or reception experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Medical Terminology a plus
  • Able to work in a high volume/fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
  • Previous computer experience

ANTICIPATED SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday
7:30a-4:00p or 8:00a to 4:30p

GENERAL SCOPE OF WORK: This position delivers excellent customer service by communicating with patients over the phone to provide necessary information and to schedule patients for PET/CT exams. Communicates with field staff and Regional Operations Manager to coordinate schedules. Manages FDG ordering on the portal and through faxed in orders. Educates patients on exam preparation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Scheduling

  • Delivers quality customer service by answering incoming phone calls or contacting patients by phone to determine exam time and schedule patient for PET/CT exam
  • Reviews screening form and verifies information to ensure accuracy
  • Ensures best possible customer service by properly educating the patient on the exam preparation and answering questions regarding PET/CT exam
  • Update patient record in SMS Portal, including any notes necessary for the technologist, customer, or future reference
  • Follows site-specific protocols and keeps protocol documentation up-to-date to ensure compliance
  • Obtains proper approval for schedule changes or cancellations as appropriate

FDG Ordering/Changes/Portal

  • Process/order FDG orders for patients using the SMS Portal, paying close attention to detail to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of processed order. Updates or cancels order in a timely manner in response to schedule changes and/or cancellations.

Daily Maintenance

  • Responsible to maintain and update PET/CT Schedule for scanners and fax
  • Maintain patient reports and images on a timely basis

On-Call

  • Take after-hours calls from patients, Physicians and ROMs regarding schedule changes
  • On-call includes cell phone and iPad coverage on nights and weekends

Other Functions:

  • Performs patient file maintenance, updating information and ensuring accuracy
  • Responsible for completion of patient file audits

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Must possess valid driver’s license with good driving record

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous patient scheduling, call center or reception experience preferred
  • Proven customer service skills
  • Familiarity with Medical Terminology preferred
  • Able to work in a high volume/fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
  • Operating knowledge of personal computers and MS Windows and Office applications (including Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Capable of a flexible work schedule, including on-call and overtime hours as needed
  • Must be able to interact with patients, insurers and SMS team members in a responsible, professional and ethical manner
  • Must be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be able to work independently with limited direction
  • Must be reliable and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Posses a high degree of accuracy in work output
  • Ability to self motivate

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Performs most duties under artificial lighting, with some daylight from windows or doors.
  • Most work is performed over the phone with use headset.
  • Building is air conditioned during the summer months and heated during the winter season.
  • Building has both carpeted and tiled floors.
