JOB SUMMARY

Responsible to Trumbull Regional Medical Center for supporting the corporate mission, vision and values. Responsible to Laboratory Anatomy Pathology section to assist in specific tasks in histology, preparing from tissue sections performing autopsies with physical supervision and assists with resident and medical student school. Responsible to the customer for courteous, accurate, timely service.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES

• Accesses and dissects surgical pathology specimens, selects tissues for microscopic examination.
• Assists pathologist in performance of frozen sections at various locations within Steward Health Care System and other outside locations.
• Performs gross autopsies under supervision.
• Oversees all morgue services.
• Assists pathologist in preparation of teaching exercise for pathology residents, medical students and other healthcare skeletal students.
• Performs various Quality Assurance and Safety related activities, Laboratory aide for CAP accreditation standards.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Science with graduation from recognized pathology assistant program required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Broad knowledge in anatomic pathology and related histology disciplines. Knowledge of regulatory, legislative and JCAHO standards related to Laboratory safety and accreditation.
