Part-time Firefighter/EMT Job at Scott County Government
Individuals needed to provide for protection of life and property through the suppression and prevention of fires and in the response to emergency calls. Duties include responding to scenes of fires, disasters or other emergency incidents; protecting life and property through controlling, extinguishing and preventing fires; providing emergency medical services; regularly maintaining firefighting equipment, apparatus, and quarters. In emergency situations, performs hazardous tasks requiring strenuous physical exertion for extended periods of time in cramped surroundings, hot and smoky environments with limited visibility and at considerable heights.
Position requires graduation from high school or possession of a GED. Individuals must also be 19 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license and 150 hours volunteer certification training as established by the Kentucky Commission on Fire Protection Standards. Preference will be given to applicants who have prior experience working as a firefighter/EMT, possess a valid Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician certificate, and/or are a certified professional firefighter and have completed the 400-hour Kentucky Commission on Fire Protection Standards and education training program. The normal shift start time is 7:30 a.m. Candidates will be expected to work at least 48 hours per month, which could be fulfilled by working two (2) 24-hour shifts or four (4) 12-hour shifts or a combination of either. Preference will also be given to individuals who are not participants in the CERS retirement program.
